“Um, MC, what just happened?” Lilly came up behind her as she was headed back to the table.
“Huh? Oh, I was just dancing with Phil,” MC responded trying to downplay it hoping that Lilly had missed what happened at the end.
“Yes, I saw the dancing. I was asking about what happened after that. Did Jessy’s brother just kiss you? And more importantly, did you like it?” her friend excitedly asked shoving MC in the shoulder.
“Oh. You saw that?” MC tried to stop the blush that was creeping up her cheek.
“Ah, ya, I saw that. I think most of the bar saw that!” Lily laughed at MC’s obvious discomfort. “Let’s head back to the table. You have some explaining to do.” She continued laughing as she made a beeline for where the group was sitting.
MC rolled her eyes and groaned. She knew she was in for some friendly ribbing. As she began her trek back to the table, she noticed that Lilly was already sharing the gossip with the others.
After a couple of minutes of jokes at MC’s expense, she pipped in, “So…It’s getting late, and I know most of you still have to work tomorrow. We should wrap this up.”
“Hey, Hannah and I were talking, and we would love for all of you to come over to our apartment tomorrow night,” Lilly suggested excitedly. “We can order pizza and play games. You’re all invited. What do you say?”
“What a great idea! I love board games and it will be great spending more time with all of you,” MC replied.
“I’m in!” Dan was the first to speak up. “And MC, don’t forget, you promised to drink with me. I’m bringing that bottle of whiskey!”
“You got it, Dan. But no driving,” she eyed him seriously before continuing, “Maybe you can get Jessy to drive you? It would be great to see her and maybe being with the group would be good for her too.”
“I think so too,” Dan answered, the expression on his face didn’t change much, just became slightly more somber. It was his eyes that expressed the most emotion. Sadness, concern, empathy, and there was something else there too as he thought of Jessy. “I promise. I will try to get her to join us.”
After nods of agreement to meet again tomorrow and goodbyes all around, the group began to head towards the door. Just then the jukebox started up again with someone else’s music request. MC grabbed Lilly’s arm stopping her. Hannah noticed and gave her a confused look.
