Kimberly sighed, placing her hands on her hips, just staring at a tree, hoping an idea or literally any explanation would come to her. Her working theory was that this creature was somehow connected to the weird rot she's seen, Kimberly just wasn't sure how.
Tires screeched, and a loud bang was heard followed by tumbling, making Kimberly flinch and duck down. Her heart raced, she didn't realize how close to the road she was to have heard a car accident, she figured someone had hit a deer based on how quickly the tires sped off.
Once her heart had stopped pounding, she stood to search for the poor animal but froze when she saw movement.
Out of the tree trunk came one pale and scrawny arm, followed by another. And then out came a faceless creature, it looked like a wrapped up flower, its face began to move back and forth searching for something. It retreated back into the hole it came from, having not found what it wanted.
Kimberly looked back at the tree, seeing it now had that weird rot on its base. She thought for a moment, before deciding that she should run. Instead she walked towards the tree.
"This is crazy," she crouched down next to the tree, and very hesitantly placed her hand inside. It felt gooey and cold. "Ugh," she said as she placed her whole arm into it. "Ok it shouldn't be able to do that, what if..." She held her breath and crawled her way into the tree through the rot.
She was fully inside but just stayed seated on the ground looking at her surroundings. It was the woods, but barren, and dead. It had these specs just floating around the air, and everything had a red tint to it, almost as if that was the color of the sky. She couldn't really tell based on the dark storm clouds above her.
Kimberly took a breath, "Ya no I'm outta here." She turned around, prepared to crawl back through the hole she came in through but to her surprise, no such hole existed. "Shit." She felt the bark, nothing. "Shit. Shit. Shit."
She grabbed her hairspray and lighter and got up to start looking at different tree bases, hoping to find another exit. After a little while of searching she saw movement, she froze and hid behind a tree. It was still climbable despite having no leaves for her to hide in, so she climbed up.
She calmed her pounding heart once again, watching the creature from earlier pull in a deer.
"It must have found the animal that was hit then," she thought to herself.
She moved her leg closer, but cut herself on some exposed sharp tree bark, something she's done countless times and part of the reason why she always keeps a first aid kit on her. The creature snapped its head towards her, she froze eyes wide with fear.
It stalked toward Kimberly, moving to climb up the tree.
She panicked and sprayed the creature with hairspray, and held up her lighter to it, making her very own flamethrower.
It worked exactly how Kimberly wanted and the creature collapsed to the ground, before scampering off in pain.
She sighed and gave it a few moments before climbing down the tree, hoping it had opened up another exit but what she found wasn't an exit, but Nancy Wheeler.
