Cordelia was furious with Draco. She'd woken up, and did her morning routine with Carmella, and when they went to the store, she expected her card to decline when she was buying groceries, and yet, it didn't.
So here she was, storming into Draco's work, Carmella on her hip. She'd figured out that Draco got a job here, almost immediately after she allowed him to stay in her apartment, and it scared her how fast he could get his life together in two weeks.
"Excuse me?" The lady at the front desk motioned to Cordelia, "May I ask why you're here? Children aren't allowed—"
"Oh, fuck off." She muttered, walking up the stairs. She was sure she'd find his office eventually, and even if, she'd walk around this entire building if she had too.
By the time she made it all the way up, she was out of breath, and had to clutch her stomach with her other hand. Carmella was playing with Cordelia's braid, not paying attention to the world around her.
Cordelia turned down multiple hallways, until she saw a sign beside a door that read 'Malfoy 203' and sighed of relief. Her hand twisted the door knob, stopping shortly when she realized a women was standing there, in front of Draco's desk.
Her arms were being thrown up, and as soon as the door opened, the women turned around, her shirt clearly see through and her cleavage showing for every one too see. Well, specifically the man in front of her. Draco Malfoy.
"Cordelia?" Draco was standing up at an instant, watching the way Cordelia clenched her fists.
"Mr. Malfoy, we're having a conversation. You can kindly tell her to leave—"
"Get out."
It wasn't Draco's words, it was Cordelia's. Jealousy riddled up inside of her, and she hated it, but seeing that women clearly trying to get his attention, made her mad.
Draco motioned for her to leave, and she huffed as she walked out, fixing her skirt. He went to say something, but when Cordelia slammed his office door shut, he sat back down in his seat.
"Care to explain why there's fifty grand in my account?" She sat Carmella down on the seat, still breathing pretty heavily, and Draco took notice.
He stood back up, "You shouldn't be going up so many stairs like that. Next time, take the elevators."
She scoffed, crossing her arms in her sweater. "Don't change the subject—"
"I'm not—"
"You are," she snapped, watching the way he clenched his jaw. "I want to know how you even got access to my bank account. You think just because you've got money and because you act all big and bad that you— you can do whatever you want—"
"Cordelia," he said her name so lowly she shut her mouth at an instant. He handed her a water bottle and made her sit down, pulling a chair up to sit in front of her. "You take. The elevator. Don't ever walk up those stairs again."
She tried to calm down, tried to gulp the water down and tried to ignore the way he watched her. She set her water bottle down gently, and mumble an, "Okay."
He sighed, "You were going to go broke. You really think I'd let that happen?"
She brought her knees to her chest, growing agitated with the fact that her bump only let her knees come so far up. Frustrated, she pushed her feet onto Draco's knees, and tried to hide her embarrassment.
"I get paid tomorrow." She glanced at Carmella, "We would've been fine."
"You need to understand that I'm here now." He held onto her ankles, not allowing them to slip off his knees. "You're never going to struggle again."
Cordelia ran a hand through her hair, "We weren't— struggling."
He rolled his tongue on the inside of his cheek, "Yeah? And what happens when you're about to go into labor, Cordelia? You can't expect to raise a newborn and a two year old that's almost three, with no income for six weeks. You can't work until you go into labor."
She squeezed her eyes shut, burying her face in her hands. "I would've gotten through. I always do."
He'd heard how shaky her voice was, and his face softened, taking her into his lap. She let out a quiet sob, Draco's hands going to rub her back comfortingly.
He left small kisses on her head from time to time, and made sure to lock his door with the little wand less magic he knew. "You're okay, Love."
"It's hard," she told him, curling into his body— familiarity soothing her. "I don't want to depend on you, Draco. I don't want to take your money because I wish— I wish I could just support myself and I can't." She cried again, softly gripping his shirt. "I can't do it by myself and I wish I could because I'm still so, so mad at you."
He only held her tighter, "I know. I'm trying to make it up to you."
She shifted onto his lap, straddling him, and then hugged him, her head laying on his chest. "I missed you."
—
He'd heard her, and his fists balled up into the blanket on the couch.
Did he go into her bedroom? Or did he leave her alone, knowing she's been going through it without him for three months? But his heart was shattering the more he heard her whimper and cry, sounding muffled into her bed sheets.
A small arm tugged at his bicep, he wasn't wearing a shirt. He looked down at Carmella, who was holding her teddy bear and rubbing the sleep out of her eyes. "Mamas having ni-mares again," she whispered, tugging at him again.
He rubbed his eyes as well, grasping onto Carmella and standing up. She was so little in his arms, and for a moment his heart stopped when she laid her head down on his shoulder.
"Okay," he breathed out, walking towards Cordelia's room. "Let's get you back to sleep."
He laid her down and pulled the covers up over her, giving her the pacifier on the nightstand. Then, his eyes slid over to Cordelia, and how she was side ways, curled into her blanket. His heart plummeted to his stomach.
He pulled her over, not missing the way her eyes rolled back, and when his hand moved to her heart, he gasped for his own air and pulled her up, sitting down in her bathtub, a pained expression on his face.
She'd panicked so hard she stopped breathing.
He turned the water to cold, pouring it over her face, and he began to panic himself. His eyes welled up with tears, moving her face around, and holding her in his lap as water poured on both of them.
"Cordelia," his voice was shaky, "Wake up. Come on, don't do this to me."
Everything inside of him felt heavy. It felt like his world had stopped spinning, and the axis tilted until it turned over completely. His vision was getting blurry and it wasn't because of the shower water.
Her hands balled up, and she sat up, coughing up water, shivering. Draco let out a cry of relief, turning off the water, the both of them panting.
She coughed some more, looking around her, her eyes wide and weary. "What.. what happened?"
Draco couldn't tell her. All he could do was stare at her, with tears in his eyes, threatening to spill over as she grew confused.
He could've lost her.
So all he could do was slightly sob into his hands as she came up and sat in his lap, wiping away his tears out of confusion.
