Avni Mehta a pretty and charming girl, born as if by an error of fate, into a lower middle class family. She was such a cute and adorable baby that anyone would feel attatched to her but not her own family as they were expecting a boy who could be the heir of their family and not a girl who will be burden on them.
Their thinking was also low graded result of living in an complete orthodox society. Though the family was not so happy by the arrival of a baby girl, they still were ready to grow her up as now she was their responsibility.

Ashish and Neela send their daughter Avni to school with other children. Ashish's salary was enough just to fulfill their needs still they were trying to manage somehow.

By virtue of the simple fact that she was born as a girl, she had to carry on her shoulders, the burden of centuries of traditions, rituals, expectations and responsibilities that every girl must bear from birth to death according to their stereotype society.

Divorce, Single parenthood, pubs, boyfriends, gay lesbian rights, female bus/taxi drivers etc. were still like a taboo to them.

Avni was a bright child since childhood. She made many friends in her school due to her nice behaviour. But all her friends were quite different than her. They had a very different lifestyle as compared to her. Her friends usually used to talk about latest movies, TV series, new songs which Avni was totally unaware of. They used to talk about their dream destinations, their weekend plans, their favourite actors, singers and many more....

When Avni talked about all these to her parents, they told her that she is different from other kids, she has to fulfill the responsibilities of her family by focusing on her career. She has to focus on studies and these all are distractions.

Avni was just a teenager but still she was understanding and had mature thinking. She knew that her financial condition wasn't the same as of her rich friends. She had observed how her parents compromise with small things so that they'll be able to fulfill her needs, so Avni was also determined that she will study hard focusing on her career and will keep all the distractions away.  She didn't complained about anything. But still somewhere in her heart she too wanted to lead a happy, carefree life like her friends' but she very well knew that the happy and carefree way of living was considered as sinful lifestyle by her society.

Avni had her two best friends Mitali and Neil who were much rich as compared to her. Frankly she wasn't even a comparison to them. Their clothes, their foods, their holidays, their hobbies were very different than her.

She wasn't permitted to go for sleepovers with her friends as their parents, however so loving and friendly weren't trustworthy according to her mother Neela.

As Avni grew up, she was no longer allowed to wear shorts or small dresses on hot summer days. She was taught to cover up herself and not to draw others attention towards her looks. When she got her first period, she was told to bury this shameful secret hidden away from everyone. She was withdrawn from sex-education. At school while every of her classmate learnt about puberty and growing up, she was hit by her mother's sharp words which clearly told her there's no need for her to learn about all this shitty things.

As Avni was big enough to understand the situations, she was feeling very suffocated due to all the limitations and restrictions put upon her. She too wanted to lead a normal life.

She never dreamt of a lavish lifestyle....
She just dreamt for normal survival....
But this orthodox mentality of society couldn't even provide it..and so one more angel died... inside her....

She was pissed off, her life was all about
Arey sahi se baitho, sahi se leto, sahi se khade raho, zada mat haso, zor se mat bolo..Log, mohalle waale, gali waale, Mars waale, Jupiter waale, Universe waale kya kahenge?

This Log kya kahenge has killed more dreams than anything else in the world.

Avni was invited to discos and movie nights but of course she couldn't go as she was strictly ordered that her first priority should be to stay away from all boys as they would bring nothing but shame and disrepute and who could recover from that?

To be continued.....
