Chapter 36 : Monster

[Third Person POV]

Mayuri lost consciousness as her energy burnt out. But before she could fall down, someone held her and made her land safely. It was Vedant, his eyes blue.

The Infinity was somehow attached to his chest now and it was giving him power as it glowed. He descended to the balcony swiftly along with an unconscious Mayuri.

Mahesh quickly took his sister from Vedant's arms and tried to wake her up. "Mayu! Wake up!" he cried but she didn't respond to anything.

"Mahesh... if you please..." Vedant said as he showed him his glowing hand. Mahesh showed hesitation at first but then agreed reluctantly. Vedant put his palm on Mayuri's forehead as it started to heal her.

"I've healed her. But she still needs some rest..." Vedant said as he looked away. Avni noticed the increased awkwardness between Vedant and Mahesh as they both held Mayuri and made her sleep on her bed.

"Avni Di... Thanks!" Vedant said as he hugged Avni. "But I was back in REDZ... Who got me here??"
"I didn't see anyone particularly, but I think it was Amruta..." she said as she got a call. "It's Smita Aunty... You want to?-"

Vedant just stared at her blankly in response.

"Nevermind, I'll tell her that you are okay," she said as she understood what Vedant wanted to convey. Due to the confrontation, Vedant had with his parents, he distanced himself from them. He hadn't talked to them for a month now.

Vedant turned to Mahesh and asked him, "We'll talk about Mayuri and me some other time, right now I want to know how did you come here? I didn't even call you this time."

"I heard Mayu scream when I was in the backyard. But by the time I got to her room, there was this portal that led to your house. I entered it to find myself here," he informed.

"Dr.Gaikwad?! Where is he?!" Vedant asked Avni all of a sudden as he remembered something. "Didi! Tell me!"
"He's no more... He died in a lightning strike at REDZ..." she sighed as she sat beside Mayuri. "Speaking of lightning, were you hit by the same?"

"Yup, but it wasn't natural. I know it sounds ridiculous but... Amruta Mohini have powers like me and Mayuri. Maybe even more... She made the lightning fall on us..." Vedant revealed as he pointed toward his broken armor.

"Who's Mohini?" Avni Di questioned.
"Amruta's alternate personality... She's chaotic. She was saying something about unleashing my alternate monstrous side or something..." Vedant said as he scratched his head. He soon noticed Avni's and Mahesh's faces turning pale again at the mention of 'monstrous.'

"It's related to my past again, isn't it?" Vedant asked as he turned to Mahesh again. Avni tried to intervene but it was too late.

"Everything is related to my past! Everything! But no one thinks it's important enough to tell me about my own past!!!" Vedant sighed. "I'm not even surprised at this point..."

"Vedant... It's-"
"We made the no-secrets pact Mahesh! I trust you blindly... I even sacrified Mayu-" but Vedant paused as he realized what he was going to say.

"Mayuri?!" Mahesh asked as he shrugged Vedant's shoulders. "What about her? How is she related to-?"
"Don't try to change the topic now! Just tell me why Mohini is so hell-bent on unleashing this monstrous side of me??" Vedant said as he swiftly changed the flow of conversation.

"Okay then, listen! The truth... HEA. Haiwan-e-aatank. It wants to unleash chaos over the world. Last year, another friend of yours developed a similar motive when he got his powers from Durdrona..." Mahesh revealed as he stood up and looked at the sky. "I think even Amruta, I mean this Mohini has been brainwashed by Durdrona again, to unleash this monster... This will never end..."
