Raine winced as a loud crash from outside made them jump and snap a string on their lute.

This wasn't the first time they had heard odd things from next door, but despite its normality the sounds never failed to spike their curiosity.

"GET BACK HERE YOU HORRIBLE LITTLE MULTI-LAYERD-" A distant voice hollered from outside.

This, along with many other events leading up to this moment brought their curiosity to a breaking point.

Raine stepped outside and was greeted by multiple onions, zooming at an impossible speed away from their neighbor.

Towards them.

A still-muddy vegetable hit them square in the face, shortly followed by their not-so small neighbor.

Raine realized foggily that they still didn't know her name.

As they were ungracefully tackled to the ground, they got one of the first looks at this mysterious neighbor, and oh, was she absolutely gorgeous.

Orange locks spread in a frizzy mess, framing a face full of energy (and quite a few freckles).

In Raine's honest opinion, she was the definition of perfect.
They felt their heart thump rather loudly as she bent down to see if they were okay, and went beet red when she took their hand to help them up.

"-Uhm, are you okay?"

This shook Raine out of their stupor.

"Oh! Yes, sorry. Those were some, uh, rowdy onions!" They stumbled over their words slightly.

"Hah, yeah, sorry about those. I was tryin' out a new thing to try and make 'em get in the pan on their own, but as you can see, it didn't really work out." She rubbed her neck sheepishly. "I'm Eda, by the way."

"Raine, Raine Whispers. Pleasure to meet you, and your onion accomplices."

That earned a chuckle, which turned into a giggle, that grew into a cackle, until both were laughing hard at nothing.

"I- I was just making dinner, actually, and it seems like you don't have any now that those onions have ran off. Would you by chance want to come over?" They hadn't, actually. Raine hadn't had a single thing cooking. Slick, Raine, real slick, They chastised themself, There goes that boat.

As they were resigning themselves to the fact that they had indeed ruined it, Eda grinned and accepted the invitation.

The two made their way inside, and Raine hurriedly put some soup on the stove to heat up, and all the whole Eda was wandering around the house, picking up objects and placing them back in almost the same spot as before.

And despite having only met them a few minutes earlier, in such an awkward fashion, Raine felt extremely attached already.

They didn't know it yet, but something special had just flown into their life, and things for both, would never be quite the same again.
