XI. My Heart Is Open

"I like you even if it's wrong to like a married woman, Olivia. Isn't that obvious?"

He likes me?! And how was it obvious, anyway? He was just helping me, she thought.

Olive was about to ask the questions in her head when Axel's phone rang which he immediately answered after stepping away from her.

"Trey? What? Totoo ba? Where? Alright, I'll be there."

Axel looked at her then said, "We have to go now."

Olive followed him quickly despite not knowing where they will go. Nang nasa kotse na sila ng binata, saka lang niya naisipang magtanong.

"Saan tayo pupunta?"

"My best friend's wife is in labor. We'll go to the hospital."

"Pwede bang hindi na sumama? Nakakahiya kung nandoon din ako."

Axel quickly looked at her. "Don't worry, Olivia. Plus, it would be good for you to meet other people whom you can also trust."

"O-Okay... uh, is your best friend's wife alright?" she asked.

"I hope so. Nasa hospital na sila noong tumawag sa'kin si Trey."

Olive nodded. Kahit hindi niya kilala, hindi niya mapigilang mag-alala sa asawa ng kaibigan ni Axel. She knows how difficult it is for a woman to be in labor despite not having her own children.

Hindi niya rin tuloy mapigilang mapa-isip na kung hindi lang sana siya ikinasal basta, baka nahanap na niya ang lalaking dapat niyang mahalin at magiging ama ng kanyang mga anak. Olive has always wanted to have her own children, but she does not want to have children with Gio. Alam niyang hindi mamumuhay sa isang maayos na pamilya ang mga anak niya kung si Gio ang magiging ama ng mga ito.

Maybe this dream will never be a reality, naisip niya.

Nang makarating sa ospital ay nagmadali silang hanapin ang kaibigan ni Axel.

"How's your wife and your baby?" tanong ni Axel sa kaibigan nito nang makalapit na sila. Olive immediately assumed that the man Axel talked to is Trey, the husband of the woman in labor. There were other people around them, whom she assumed as Axel's other best friends.

"She's fine when we left our home, nag-contraction lang once," Trey said then looked towards her way, looking confused and surprised about her sudden presence.

Axel led her on the seats then sat with her. Tumingin siya sa mga kaibigan ni Axel na naroon. Napansin niya ang isang babae na nakayakap sa isa sa mga kaibigan ni Axel. Olive noticed how familiar the woman is, then she suddenly remembered where she met her.

Siya 'yung kasama ng fashion designer na gumawa ng wedding gown ko!

Hindi alam ni Olive kung ano ang sasabihin niya rito kung sakaling mapansin siya ng dalaga. Natatandaan niyang inamin niya rito na arranged marriage lang ang kasal niya noon. Luckily, everyone was too worried about Trey's wife that she did not get to meet everyone yet.

"Are you hungry?" tanong ni Axel sa kanya. It has been two hours since they arrived but there is no news yet about Trey's wife.

Umiling siya. "Hindi naman... pero gusto ko sana ng kape. Okay lang ba?"

"Sure. Let's find the cafeteria."

Tahimik silang umalis saglit ng binata para tumungo sa cafeteria. She got herself a cup of coffee and also another cup for Trey. Kahit hindi niya ito kilala personally, gusto niyang magbigay ng tulong dito dahil panigurado ay nag-aalala ito sa asawa.

When they returned, Olive went to Trey and handed him his cup of coffee as she gave him a small smile.

"Sorry if I'm feeling close... I just want to help," mahinang sabi niya. Trey looked at her intently which made her a bit conscious. Alam niyang nagtataka ito sa kung sino siya at anong ginagawa niya rito kasama ang kaibigan nito.
