Placing my pile of clothes on the front counter I notice the presence of a fellow customer stepping up to the cashier beside my own. I look the guy over in my peripheral, a detailed dragon tattoo imprinted against one of his shaved sides. A long, blonde plait is neatly tied atop his skull, streaming down the back effortlessly like a ponytail. He's a mighty tall man, a good head taller than myself. A baggy monochrome attire gives his frame a slender appearance but his tough exterior makes me believe otherwise.
Placing a random piece of clothing on the bench for the employee to scan his nonchalant eyes trail over to me sensing my gaze.
"Hey, if you want to go on a date with me after I can give you a discount sugar," the guy serving me suggests with a wink. I return my focus to him after hearing the absurd idea, quirking my right eyebrow up in question. I feel the intense stare of the man beside me as he watches the scenario unfold before his eyes. The male assisting me merely smirks smugly, passing a taunting glance to the blonde beside me.
A sigh of disapproval escapes my lips as I shake my head placing a hand on my hip.
"It's clear this store is unable to have any sales if they can't even afford any decent staff, so I'd suggest if you enjoy your job that you don't continue to bring this business down further by losing them money and customers," I advise, hovering my card over the Eftpos machine until I read the word 'approved' appear on the illuminated screen.
Glancing back up I hide my smirk behind an innocent smile, finding his gawping mouth at a loss for words. Tearing my receipt from the machine and sliding my bag of clothes off the desk I spin around, meeting the dark orbs of the man beside me. I brush him off with a quick smile my hair dancing softly behind me as I make my way out of the store, countless eyes drifting towards my retreating figure.
A grin spreads across my face as I continue through the mall, facing downwards to hide my sudden smile from scaring others. I mean if you randomly saw some girl start grinning like a madman you'd be concerned, right?
I can't help myself though, especially knowing I grasped the attention of that tall guy. He certainly looked like he held himself quite highly with a lot of pride, I actually thought if I didn't shut down the guy hitting on me the other man would've. I'm sure he would've felt high and mighty protecting me like a damsel in distress. Honestly, guys are so predictable, I chuckle to myself.
I suppose I should head to the grocery store before I head out, eating takeout every other night isn't all that healthy after all. Besides I've spent enough money on myself today, I glance at the multiple bags in my hands with an internal smile.
Finding a trolley I chuck my bags in and push past the stores entry, wandering off into my thoughts.
When I originally started living alone my cooking experience was limited if not non-existent. So, over time with a lot of trial and error I've grown into quite a capable home cook.
My mother passed away when I was young leaving me with her abusive boyfriend. Eventually child welfare found out and I was taken into the countries care, being sent to an orphanage. A gloomy place if I do say so myself, everyone there has a messy backstory. Anyways, being as young as I was meant people were actually interested in the idea of adoption, sadly it isn't all that easy and the process can take years. I went from foster home to foster home, like most kids on the same boat as me.
It's really difficult to get adopted because once the foster parents realize how many issues the child has they simply send them back, instead of going through the whole adoption process. Other foster parents were just in it for the money mostly, sometimes when you get older it's for us to act as baby sitters or house sitters. I got to the point that I'd had enough of the constant manipulation and abuse, finding my chance of escape and taking it. Which is how I got where I am. I ran away, far away.
