Waking up has been very easy at the moment as its so fucking hot in Austin, granted it the middle of summer but still, too hot. I drag myself out of my extremely hot bedsheets, so I can feel the cool breeze of my mums AC. Yes I still live with my mum, but I have a steady income as I play ice hockey for the Texas stars.

I'm hoping to be drafted into the a NHL team that needs me to play rather than be benchwarmer as, if I don't sound too big headed, I'm the best on my team and told by lots of people especially at All Stars that I'm going to go far. I have the most assists, and goals in the whole league. I find out over the coming weeks wether I'm going to get drafted or not, I so hope I do, I'm 21 and need some motivation.

Once I'm showered and shaved, I go into the kitchen where my mum Diane Archer and younger sister Charlotte Archer are sitting drinking their coffees, once i've poured myself a cup I sit down to scroll through my emails and see if anything interesting pops up. I see coach has emailed me, 'Son, massive opportunity ahead. Ive been asked to put forward a centre man who I think will go far for the draft. So pack your bag and tell your three plus ones to get their asses over to NYC by the end of the week' I check the date and we have two days, "PACK, we're going to NYC for the draft", my mum and sister look shocked. "Our flight to NYC leave tonight, coach just told me he's trading me into a team that wants me to start, hopefully. There are a couple of options St.Louis and Blackhawks so maybe this is my year."

After that it was a little bit of a mad dash to make our flight on time but we did. The two days running up to the draft me, my mum and Char are exploring the city, but I really can't seem to focus I'm to excited at the prospect of moving to a team where I'm the first pick the non brainer he must be in the team pick, I know that I was for the stars B-team but I want A-team so badly. I know any team that wants me will be taking a risk but I want to show its one that will pay off.

Its late in the evening with two more picks of the evening, I'm in my tailored black suit with both, mum and Char in floor length dresses and Freddy by my side, Freddy is that friend you make and can never seems to get rid of. Blackhawks have just swapped a goalie for a Rangers goalie. Now all my hopes are resting on St.Louis, "And the Blues want to trade centre man Jasper Harper for Texas Stars B-team Captain Liam Archer" I feel like the world slows, my plus ones are congratulating me, thousands of people are clapping for me. I did it. I have just put my jersey on top of my suit and cap on my head and I have never felt so proud of myself as I am now. "So Liam how does it feel, you've been traded to Missouri on a four year contract and you're guaranteed to play at least one game this year from staring?", I stand there a little dazed "um wow, I'm kind of speechless, like this means so much to me, like I've always been on the ice, ever since I was three years old and four I shot my first puck and the rest is history, hockey has got me through some very tough times so I'm so grateful to the Blues for this opportunity, I can't wait to show them what I can achieve with them."

This being back home for my last training session with the boys I get to pick the captain, "boys, gather around, this is my last talk as your captain, and I want to say it was a pleasure. Now with out further a do, your captain this season is right winger Beck Johnson, I chose Beck as his knowledge of this sport second to none, he will lead you guys to multiple victories. On three, ONE, TWO, THREE TEXAS STARS" we left the rink and went for a beer at the local pub.

That night I had a couple drinks before calling it a day and going home, to start packing as they've arranged accommodation for me. My mum was still awake when I got home, she was crying into a photo book over a photo of me, her, dad and baby Charlotte, it was before dad disappeared. One day when I was five and Charlotte 2, he went to work and never came home, last I heard he remarried and had another two kids, but has made no effort with us. It breaks my heart because I know how much it affects mum. "Oh Mumma, it'll be alright, its only a 1.5 hour flight I'll come back every spare weekend and holidays", I side hug her as she cries more into my chest, "I know sweetie, it just feels like five minutes ago you were this small (pointing at the photo) and now your a man going to play for your first professional team, I'm just so proud".

After she fell asleep I covered her with the blanket and went to sleep myself, still wearing a huge cheesy grin, I'm playing in NHL next season was the thought that sent me off to sleep.
