IT WAS INTO THE late hours of the night, Stefan was trying to sleep but even after a bazillion twists and turns, he just couldn't get his mind to rest. For someone who was apparently really exhausted he sure was wide awake. Caroline was at Bonnie's tonight, so he had the house all to himself.
Suddenly, his phone started buzzing, giving him a jolt from his passing daydream. He groaned and checked to see who was calling so late at night.
"Oh for God's sake..." he mumbles in a groggy voice, before seeing that it was,
"Elena?" He asked, weirdly shocked as he picked up the phone.
"Stefan? Oh, hi um, I—I just had this really crazy dream and I just, I got scared and..."
She rambles on the other line panting out of fear.
"Hey! Elena, listen to me, listen, calm down. Just, take a deep breath, alright?" He gently requests of her.
He heard deep inhaling on the other side.
"Feel better?" He inquired.
"Yeah. Thanks, Stefan." She stiffly said.
"Do you... wanna talk about it?" He hesitated.
"I don't know, it was just... really scary..." She almost whispers at the end.
"And you'll be fine on your own or?" A pause.
"Oh yeah, I'll manage. Besides, I don't want to keep you with having to worry about me, again. And oh my God! I am so sorry for calling you so so late and at this hour! I feel like such an idiot."
"Elena, Elena! Don't worry. You didn't bother me at all. Sleep wasn't really on my side tonight either way, and if anything you're keeping me company. And don't invalidate your worries like that, we're friends, remember? I think that at least gives you midnight phone privileges, don't you think?" He confidently told her.Where was that coming from, anyway? He silently questioned.
"Wow, thanks, Stefan. And, it's okay, really. I am fine, just a little shaken up." She murmured.
Obviously not trying to be burdening she brushed him off.
But he knew better.
He could read her like an open book.
"And you're sure?" He checks one last time.
No I am not. Elena silently thought.
"'Lena?" She always had a tendency to zone out. And he always felt obligated to click her back into reality.
"Um, yeah?" She snapped back.
"You're okay, right?" He further enquires.
She hums.
