Fire. Everywhere. Burning the grounds, burning through her eyes. Her body feels like they're on fire. She tosses and turns as she feels heat creep up to her whole body. But then her eyes snap open, and she sits up immediately. She pants heavily as she remembers her vivid dream. Why is everything burning?
Hyunjung rubs her eyes tiredly, letting out a breath she doesn't know she was holding. She tries her best to stable her breathing, suddenly aware of the thin layer of sweat covering her whole body. She's been having this same dream repeatedly for the past few days. Feeling like she had calmed down, Hyunjung dropped her hands, but then she realized the sleeping figure beside her. She decides to not bother her, so slowly, she slides out of the bed, and grabs her phone and her sleeping robe, putting it on over her naked top but leaving it untied.
The 26 years-old woman strides down the stairs lazily, sliding her hand down the wood handle as she lets herself be engulfed by the cold surrounding. But despite the trembling feeling, Hyunjung lets her goosebumps stand as she sits on the leather couch. She stares outside the large window, counting the stars through the heavy snow falling outside. She was about to check her phone, but then she feels something nuzzles her feet. Hyunjung looks down and smiles, patting the empty space next to her, asking the pet to come and sit next to her.
"Hey there, Yangmal. You can't sleep too?" The cat meows underneath her touch as she rubs it's chin, making it purr in pleasure. She stares at Yangmal and thinks, does he have weird dreams too? And then she laughs at herself because it's ridiculous to think that cats could have dreams. Hyunjung watches the snow creep up on the window, covering it with a thin layer of mist. She stands up, and then she hears a loud purr from her side, and when she turns, she's greeted with a sleeping Yangmal. She shakes her head and walks towards the large window. Now standing near it, her body feels ten times colder than it was before. She brings her hand up, drawing a bunny on the cold glass.
"Hyunjung." Immediately, she turns her head at the source of voice. Standing on the staircase, hair disheveled, rubbing her eyes sleepily, Jiyeon looks at her with worry in her eyes. She then walks slowly towards where Hyunjung's standing, and when she's standing next to her, she tightens her wool robe and rubs her own arms as puffs of air come out of her mouth.
When Jiyeon shifts in her sleep, she finds herself searching the empty space beside her. She sits up, suddenly feeling the cold seeps through her skin as her main source of warmth isn't there beside her. So she stands up as well, searching for her wife, and then finding her standing near the glass window.
"Sorry, did I wake you up?" Hyunjung looks at her, and stops tracing her fingers on the window, and Jiyeon watches the bunny pattern slowly be enveloped by the mist.
"No, you didn't." She breathes as she traces circles on Hyunjung's left arm.
"I just-" Her wife arches an eyebrow.
"I'm cold." She says as she looks up to Hyunjung, whose head turns towards her, but her body remains facing the window.
"Well who asks you to wear only a shirt to sleep?" Hyunjung says teasingly, making Jiyeon roll her eyes.
"You're so not sweet." She turns to look outside, down the streets and there's only a few cars passing by, with the street light guiding them through the heavy snow. She hears Hyunjung chuckles, but then she feels hands wrap around her, and she lets herself drown in Hyunjung's warmth. She grabs the hand on her waist and holds it tightly, trying to warm up her cold hands. Jiyeon then remembers the reason she woke up in the first place.
"Why are you awake?" She asks carefully, tracing Hyunjung's hand with care. She notices it actually. These past few days, Hyunjung's been squirming, restless in her sleep. She always finds herself trying to calm her wife, and she always succeeded, but she wonders why she doesn't realize tonight.
"I had a dream. Well maybe not a dream, a nightmare."
"A nightmare?"
"Yeah." Hyunjung breathes next to her ear, making her shiver and turns her head to press a soft kiss underneath the woman's jaw.
"What's it about?" She asks as she plays with the ring on Hyunjung's finger.
"It's just, everything's burning." Before Jiyeon can say anything, Hyunjung elaborates.
"At first there's a house, and I was there, standing in the middle of it. But then it started burning and I ran out. Then even the ground starts burning, and by that time, my body feels like it's on fire even though I'm far away from the house." Jiyeon hums, and then she turns around, wrapping her arms around Hyunjung's neck as she stares at her through half-lidded eyes.
"Maybe it's a memory." Her voice is raspy, maybe because she had just woken up.
"Yeah. Maybe it is. I hope it'll go away soon." Hyunjung's breath hits her lips as she keeps her hand still on Jiyeon's waist.
"Me too." Hearing that made Hyunjung smile, and it makes Jiyeon unconsciously lean towards her, meeting their lips in a gentle, slow kiss. She feels Hyunjung pulls her closer, and she slips one hand inside of Hyunjung's robe, caressing her naked torso. Hyunjung gasps in her mouth, shivering as she feels Jiyeon's cold hand against her skin.
Hyunjung pulls her up, hooking her arms under Jiyeon's thighs and Jiyeon immediately hops and wraps her legs around Hyunjung's waist. She cups the older girl's face and deepens their kiss, tugging at Hyunjung's lower lip with her teeth as Hyunjung gasps for air. Their body radiates heat as they mold their lips against each other.
She is about to slip Hyunjung's robe off, but then a sound interrupts them. Hyunjung snaps her head, and Jiyeon looks past her head, and grins at the creature on the sofa, looking at them with a grumpy look on its face.
"Sorry, Yangmal. Go back to sleep." She says as Hyunjung puts her down. Jiyeon caresses the cat's face one last time before she walks away, towards Hyunjung who's now standing at the bottom of the staircase. The brunette wraps her arm around Hyunjung's waist as they walk up the stairs, striding towards their bedroom.
Stepping through the heavy wooden door, Jiyeon takes off her robe, and immediately the warmth from before slips away from her. She turns her head to Hyunjung, who's taking off her own robe, revealing her pale, naked skin. Jiyeon reaches out, and slowly, she runs her fingers along the center of Hyunjung's chest. And then she stops, and pushes Hyunjung down onto their bed, laying on top of her as Hyunjung wraps her arms around her. With her legs, Hyunjung pulls the covers around them, warming them up in the cold night.
Jiyeon listens to the soft beating of Hyunjung's heart, and she kisses her neck leisurely as Hyunjung rubs circles on her back. When she raises her head, she watches Hyunjung who's staring out the window, and she pokes her jaw lightly, grabbing the older girl's attention.
"Good night." Hyunjung grins at her, and kisses her, before she closes her eyes and leans her head on the soft pillow.
"Good night, Jiyeon-ah."
"Sleep well okay?" She says as she lays her head back to the raven's chest as they move according to her heavy breathing.
Hyunjung hums and Jiyeon can feel the vibration through her chest. She waits for a while, and gradually, Hyunjung's breathing slows. Jiyeon sighs in content, finally closing her eyes and let sleep takes over her.
