Aatxe translated means "young bull", he is also known as Etsai, Aatxegorri or Aaxtegori. Aatxe is a cave-dwelling spirit who takes the form of a young bull or the shape of a man. During the night, mostly stormy, he comes out of his cave and attacks criminals and other malevolent people. He protects people by making them stay in their homes when danger is close.

Many theorized him as a representation of the Goddess Mari, or the enforcer of her will, punishing people who cheat her
