1974
A THIRTEEN-YEAR-OLD VIVIANNE HUMMED TO HERSELF. Her hand reached over to hold Peter's. Three years had passed since they first met each other. She considered him to be her closest acquaintance. The concept of friends wasn't something Vivianne was an expert on but she could not deny that she did feel something around Peter. It was as if he was meant to hold her hand, meant to be beside her ━ meant to be hers.
Placing his notebook down, Peter stopped drawing, his hand being occupied by Vivianne's.
'Are you drawing that spider again?' Vivianne asked, glancing down at his notebook.
'It's a black widow,' Peter told her.
'Oh. . .' Vivianne trailed off. She knew he had always been fascinated with spiders. Finding their predatory nature intriguing. A part of her couldn't quite understand it but the other part decided to let it go for it made Peter happy. As long as he was okay, she was okay.
She had discovered something new, something that sparked her curiosity. Occasionally when she closed her eyes, she would be able to see things. . . things that had yet to happen. She could see Peter drawing a black widow before he had even picked the notebook up. And she knew Dr Brenner was going to enter their room in approximately twelve minutes.
'He'll be here in a few minutes,' Vivianne told him, having already explained her new abilities to Peter.
'What is he going to say?' Peter questioned, glancing at her, blond locks falling in front of his eyes.
Vivianne chuckled. Hand gripping his a bit tighter, she let him inside her mind, letting him see the vision she had of Dr Brenner. She looked at him while the memory played in his mind, his eyes staring into the vast nothingness.
'Fascinating,' Peter commented, giving her hand a small squeeze. 'How far into the future can you see?'
'Far,' Vivianne answered, lips curling into a smirk. 'I've seen us, Peter. On top of the world.'
'On top of the world. . .' Peter trailed off, eyes finding hers. 'You truly are spectacular. I see why Papa treats you so well.'
A look of sympathy spread across her face. 'I'll make sure he treats you equally as well.'
Peter slowly shook his head. 'I don't want you getting hurt because of me. I don't have the energy to stitch you up like last time.'
'You won't,' said Vivianne with confidence.
Vivianne leaned closer to him, lowering her voice. 'When I murdered that girl from my class, I was able to absorb some of her energy and grow more powerful through it. Maybe I can do the same when the guards punish me next time.'
'You're going to murder them?' Peter asked, raising an eyebrow at her.
'Not them, you silly goose,' Vivianne hissed. 'I'm going to absorb the energy they use.'
A knock on the door pushed the two out of their conversation.
Vivianne snapped her head towards the door, feeling Peter stand up beside her, covering her body with his own.
'One, Zero,' Dr Brenner greeted the two with a small nod.
'Good afternoon, Papa,' the two greeted him in unison.
'Zero. It's time for your lesson,' Dr Brenner spoke, glancing down at Vivianne who was seated on the floor.
'Yes Papa,' Vivianne muttered, disgusting spreading all over her body. She stood up, about to leave with Dr Brenner when Peter caught her hand.
'How long will it take?' Peter asked the two, although his question was more directed towards Dr Brenner.
Dr Brenner forced a smile to his lips. 'That entirely depends on Zero.'
'I'll make it quick,' Vivianne whispered to him, pressing a kiss to his cheek before following Dr Brenner.

SITTING INSIDE THE WHITE ROOM, VIVIANNE CROSSED ONE LEG OVER THE OTHER. She leaned back into her chair, faux confidence dripping off her shoulders. If she was confident in her abilities, she would've snapped his neck there and then, but she knew the consequences she would face would be far worse than putting up with him for a few more years.
'You can add precognition to your list,' she said, glancing down at the notebook he held in his hands.
Dr Brenned raised his eyebrows in surprise.
'I know you write a list,' she muttered. 'That's why I said it. . .'
'Precognition?' Dr Brenner mused.
'I have dreams of events that have yet to happen. Sometimes when I focus hard enough I can see those events willingly. I saw you arrive at our room twelve minutes before you actually did it.'
Dr Brenner took notice of how she said 'our' room instead of her room.
'That's very interesting,' he commented, scribbling down some notes onto his notebook. 'Thank you for telling me.'
Vivianne smiled at him, the vision of his future still playing in her mind. She would have to play her cards right. The future ━ like most things ━ was a dynamic concept, ever-changing. One wrong thing and the future could be changed.
'Is that all?' Vivianne questioned, raising an eyebrow at the older man.
'Not quite. . .' Dr Brenner trailed off and leaned down, taking hold of a Rubic's cube. 'I want you to turn this into dust and then change it back.'
Fingers taking hold of the cube, Vivianne focused on it, imagining it turning to dust in front of her. Her imagination became reality and before she knew it, the remnants of the cube were seeping through the gaps between her fingers like sand. Focusing on turning the dust back into its former shape, she watched as the dust particles gathered, forming the Rubik's cube it once was.
'Well done,' Dr Brenner praised her, giving her a pleased nod. 'That is all for today.'
Vivianne nodded and hopped off the chair, striding out of the room without another word. She was quick to make her way back to her room, wanting nothing more than to see Peter.
