1979

VIVIANNE GENTLY TRACED PETER'S JAWLINE, SMILING IN CONTENTMENT WHILE HE STARED AT HER. There was something about him, his touch, his smell, his voice, that made Vivianne go crazy inside her mind. She couldn't get enough of him, needing to be beside him and feel his touch and presence. Without him, she feared she would lose her mind.

'You'll be sent to the Upside Down today. . .' she trailed off. 'But I've linked our minds.'

'Will I still be able to see you?' Peter asked.

'Every single night,' she smiled.

'Good,' he murmured, taking hold of her hand, bringing it to his lips, placing gentle kisses on her knuckles.

People's thoughts of love differed from Vivianne's. Granted, she had never experienced it before ━ at least not the kind of love that they showed in movies. She did not feel a warmth blossom in her chest; she did not feel spread across her body. No, for Vivianne, it was hot and heavy. She couldn't get enough of him. It was as if her whole world was on fire whenever she was with him. It spread in flames, eating her up from the inside with its ravenous mouth, it consumed her.

And she wouldn't want to have it any other way.

If he left her, she wasn't sure what she'd do to the world. She couldn't lose him. He was hers, as she was his. Losing him meant losing a part of herself. It wouldn't be possible. If locking him away, cutting his legs off, removing his power ━ anything ━ meant that he'd stay by her side. Then Vivianne was more than willing to do that. Because she loved him. That's what love was, right?

'Peter,' Vivianne gasped, feeling his lips on her neck. 'You need to leave with Eleven. She'll remove the device for you.'

'Eleven can wait,' he murmured against her skin.

'Can your powers wait too?' Vivianne asked, cocking an eyebrow at him.

Reluctantly, Peter got off her, shooting her an annoyed look.

'Fine,' he grumbled. 'I'll see you soon.'

'Yeah,' she replied, placing a quick kiss on his lips.

THE ALARMS BLARED OUTSIDE HER ROOM. Without a second thought, Vivianne barged outside, finding Eleven on her way to the rainbow room.

'Eleven!' she called out, furrowing her eyebrows in confusion. 'What's happening?'

'I━ I don't know,' the younger girl uttered.

Vivianne exhaled a sigh of relief and strode over to her, hand on her cheek. 'Are you hurt?'

Shaking her head, Eleven swallowed the lump in her throat. 'No.'

'Come on, now,' Vivianne told her, voice dropping into a whisper.

She took hold of Eleven's hand, the two of them making their way to the rainbow room. Vivianne paid no attention to the bodies or blood. She was no stranger to such sights, having massacred people in her dreams all the time.

Pride bloomed in her chest at the sight of the bodies. Sadism was a clear trait that both Peter and Vivianne shared. There laid control in making others submit, something Vivianne adored. To hold someone else's life in her hands always sparked some excitement inside of her.

It reeked of death and blood inside the rainbow room. In front of her, Peter was slowly killing Two, his eyes imploding at the back of his head, leaving nothing but empty sockets. Letting go of Eleven's hand, Vivianne slowly moved over to one of the children, hearing the faint sound of her cries.

Kneeling down in front of the girl, Vivianne took hold of her wrist, turning it so the girl's numbers were facing her, 006. Confusion stretched across her face. Had Peter missed one?

'I saved her for you,' Peter's voice bounced against the walls in an echo.

'How sweet of you,' Vivianne said with an amused smile, running her fingers over the Six's cheek, feeling her tremble under her touch. Moving her fingers from her cheek to her temple, Vivianne noticed the blood that trailed down.

'And you. . . I asked you to wait.'

Vivianne glanced over her shoulder, seeing that Peter's attention was on Eleven. A small smile spread on her lips, malicious and evil. She enjoyed seeing him this way, so psychotic, high on adrenaline and power.

Gripping Six's jaw tightly, Vivianne dug her nails into her skin, making the girl cry out in pain. Faux sympathy painted Vivianne's face before she felt Six's power become her own, absorbing everything she was and was going to be, turning it into her own. Six's body fell limp against the floor.

Vivianne licked the blood off her finger before turning her attention to Eleven. Vivianne walked over to the two, fingertips curling around Eleven's shoulders.

'You don't need to be scared, darling,' Vivianne said, her voice laced with honey. 'We just want something from you.'

Her hand moved from Eleven's shoulder to the back of her neck, gripping hold of her tightly, watching how Eleven's expression contorted into one of pain.

'Are you ready?' Vivianne asked, glancing at Peter.

'Yes,' Peter nodded.

Flashing him a grin, Vivianne felt the power seep through her fingertips and into Eleven's mind, forcing the younger girl to open a gate to the world they so desperately wished to explore. Eleven's eyes rolled to the back of her head, her arm stretched out.

She watched with curiosity as the wall in front of them began breaking apart, dust particles covering her vision before a red light appeared, hiding whatever was on the other side of that wall.

'Fascinating. . .' Vivianne trailed off in amazement.

With the gate fully open, Vivianne changed the memory in her mind before dropping her, Eleven's body landing on the ground with a thud.

'Peter. . .' Vivianne breathed out when she noticed that Peter was walking closer to the gate.

Peter turned around, innocent eyes staring into her own, almost as if he hadn't just murdered everyone. 'Yes, love?'

'Be careful.'

'Hey,' Peter called out, walking over to her, hand finding her cheek. 'I'll be fine. You know I will.'

Vivianne pressed a chaste kiss to his lips, feeling him against her one last time.
