Keira woke up in a car, having fell asleep the day before after ripping apart two girls in Tennessee. The past day, she and Stefan had interrogated the girls until they told them where Ray Sutton was, and afterwards, Niklaus had asked Stefan to kill one girl quickly, and asked Keira to kill the other slowly and painfully, which she had done. It had been three months since they had left Mystic Falls.

Stefan and Niklaus were in the front seats, and Keira was in the back. "You're awake," said Nik. "Passed out last night."

"Yep. As usual, I got drunk on blood. I'm underage, don't tell the bartender," Keira replied. "That girl was tasty. Where're we headed?"

"We tortured Ray until he told us where his pack was. Headed there now, to see what happens when hybrids are created. Oh, by the way, you'll find Ray in the trunk of the car, but don't eat him yet, we still need him. We're here!" Nik parked the car in a clearing in the middle of a forest.

Keira and the others got out, Stefan carrying Ray's unconscious body.

"You okay? Is Ray getting heavy?" Nik asked when they were halfway up the hill.

"I'm fine," Stefan replied.

"You sure about that? You know, we've been walking for quite some time now. If you need some water or a little sit-down..."

"You know, I get that we're, uh...we're stuck together, but if we could maybe just skip the chitchat, it'd be great."

" So much brooding. Your self-loathing is suffocating you, my friend," Keira said.

"Maybe it's 'cause I'm a little tired of hunting werewolves. We've been at it all summer."

Reaching the top of the hill, Nik pointed to a clearing of tents and fires.

"Thanks to our pal Ray, we found ourselves a pack. There."

Stefan stepped ahead of them, close enough to the wolves they could see him, and dropped Ray on the ground. One of the women ran towards them.

"Ray? What the- who are you? What's going on?" she asked. Nik stepped forwards.

"The important question is who am I. Please forgive the intrusion. My name is Klaus."

"The Hybrid..." one of the other wolves said.

"You've heard of me. Fantastic," Nik replied, smiling. "It's fascinating, actually... A werewolf who isn't beholden to the moon, a vampire who doesn't burn in the sun. A true hybrid."

"Walking in the sun," Keira muttered. "That must be nice." She then kicked Ray, and he woke up.

"Good timing, Ray!" Nik said with sadistic enthusiasm. "Very dramatic!"

"What's happening to me?" Ray asked. Keira realized Nik must have fed him his blood and then killed him the night before.

"Are any of you human? Your friend here needs human blood to complete his transition to vampire. If he doesn't get it, he will die," Stefan asked.

"Doesn't take much," Nik said, looking around. "Just a few sips. Anyone here a human? Any men, or a woman?" Nik then sped towards the only fully human man, probably a friend of the pack, and bit his neck, before throwing him down in front of Ray. The woman who had approached them first yelled out in panic, probably the human's girlfriend. She ran forwards, before Nik strangled her.

"Hey Ray, just so you know, if you don't drink, I will. Problem is, I don't exactly know how to both stop, and leave him with a head," Keira said, gesturing to him.

"It's the new order, sweetheart. You join us, or you die!"

"I'd rather die than be a vampire," said the woman Nik was strangling. Nik tilted his head, as if saying 'wrong choice,' before biting his wrist open and giving her his blood.
