It felt like being in the clouds during a rosy pink sunrise. The softness of Maria's beautiful form pressed against her. The warmth around her. Mindy didn't realize how much she had missed it. She didn't want to move. She could lay there in euphoric bliss forever.
She cracked one eye open to look at her lover but a glint caught her. Her insides felt like they were completely compressed into ball in her chest. Her ring brought her crashing down again. This wasn't just her bed and Maria was not who she was supposed to share it with. She pulled away. Tears welled up in her eyes again.
"Maria... I need you to get out."
"Oh baby, what's the matter?"
"We shouldn't have done this. Please, get out of my room. I'm so sorry."
Maria looked at her silently. She seemed to be trying to read her. Mindy could see the tears welling up in her eyes. After a moment Maria nodded, got up, gathered her things in the room and was about to step out before Mindy spoke up.
"This doesn't mean you have to leave the apartment. We just need to keep our distance."
Maria wiped a tear away.
"Ok. Thank you and... I'm sorry."
She stepped out.
Mindy's body shuttered and she sobbed. A mess of feelings she couldn't find resolution for. After the last two years of simplicity she couldn't believe she has thrown herself back into so much confusion. For now she let it take it's turn embracing her in its arms. It's familiarity almost comforting. Had she wanted this?
She didn't want to ask that now. She just wanted to hurt. Her body racked itself with deep sobs. Her bed was much colder now. The sheets wrapped her felt more constrictive and clingy. The clouds were gone now and she wasn't sure if she would get to walk in them again.
