The fog was immense as I stood in the middle of the road. It was little more than a couple seconds before I came back to my senses and looked around. I was standing on the side of a mountain road. I could tell it was a mountain since my ears were popping from the altitude; seeing in front of me was a huge wall of rock and some trees on the other side of the road, and having turned around, looked over the railing, I could see a steep cliff, with trees lining the bottom of the ground, in a sort of curve that gradually led down to the valley. Or what I could assume was a valley. The fog was so thick I could only see a couple feet in front of me.

My mind was a little fuzzy with memory, when I suddenly remember I was in the mountains in New England. It was Autumn I knew that, for the Fall leaves were softly crunching under my feet as my face and cheeks felt the cold October air. I was going somewhere. But where?..where was I going?

That was then I heard someone call my name.

"Quincy! Quincy is that you!?"

I turned around and saw my friends. Michael and Louis. Michael, the robust one dressed as a pirate, and Louis, the tall thinner one dressed as a scarecrow. It took me a second before I realized I was in costume too. I looked down at myself and saw I was wearing a gangster outfit. I think I was supposed to be Clyde from that infamous gangster duo "Bonnie and Clyde".

"Y-yeah! It's me!" I replied, coming over to them.

"Michael. Louis. What's going on?"

"Don't you remember?" Louis said, adjusting his straw tattered hat. "We're going to the Mount Autumnfest Resort for my sisters birthday costume party!"

That's what it was! Louis' sister, Louise! She invited us to her 21st birthday in this huge hotel in the mountains. Everyone from the college and our friends and parents were gonna be there!

"Oh yeah! Now I remember! But. If we were heading over there, where's our car?" I asked looking around.

It was true. We were all just standing here on this foggy road with no car. We should've been driving; I mean, the last town down the mountain is 10-20 miles away.

"I don't know. I was just standing down the road and I suddenly came to like I was asleep or something" Michael says in response. And Louis nods with him.

"You too?" I said in surprise. They both nodded their heads at me. This was very strange indeed.

Here we are, 3 college graduates who were invited to a party in the mountains, and yet we don't know how we got there or where our car is.

As I put my hand in my pocket to think. I felt my phone. My phone! I could call and see if we can possibly find out where we are or call for help!

Unfortunately, as I turned on my phone, there was no service to call anyone. But as I turned it on, it was set onto the maps app, showing our current location to the hotel. The hotel was just around the next turn up the road.

"Damn. There's no service..but the hotel seems to be just up the road. Let's go there, check in, and see if we can call someone for a ride after the party. Or maybe have one of our folks drive us" I suggested, putting my phone away.

Michael and Louis nodded in agreement. Once that was settled, we made our way up the road through the thick fog. It was odd though.

I had mentioned before while I was pacing, I could hear the crunch of my footsteps on the fallen leaves beside the railing. But now my footsteps had grown silent. And that wasn't all; Michael and Louis' footsteps were silent too. As we walked, it was completely silent except for the soft moaning of the wind and the scuttle of leaves against the pavement.

What was going on?
