when jeremiah and amelia arrived back from the beach it was about time for dinner.

rounding the corner, amelia ran into a very tired belly.

"have fun at the book store?" amelia mocked causing belly to shove her. "have fun with your boyfriend?" she retaliated.

"he's not my boyfriend," she scoffed. the younger girl laughed, "yeah, but you wish he was."

"just like how you wish conrad was-"

belly covered the girls mouth with her hand, putting a finger up with the other hand to her own mouth. "shh." her eyes grew wide. "never speak those words aloud again."

amelia rolled her eyes, "i need to change."

once she finally was in her room with the door shut she was able to process all that happened that evening. something had definitely changed in jeremiah. for the past few summers he was just jeremiah fisher, her best friend. but now..

now he was very touchy and definitely not afraid to show it. maybe it was the new body that was giving him a boost in ego but amelia sure didn't mind.

putting on a plain white crop top and a floral skirt, amelia made her way down for dinner.

"look who decided to show up," laurel joked. amelia fake gasped taking a seat between steven and jeremiah. "you're lucky i came down at all. i still look a mess." she rolled her eyes at no one in particular.

jeremiah leaned in, making sure only she could hear, "trust me, you don't. far from it actually," she turned to him with a smile and whispered in his ear, "oh, yeah?"

he loved the way her voice sounded in his ear, and he'd love to hear more of it. and she was so close to him that if it wasn't for the dinner table and the people around, he'd smash his lips into hers.

jeremiah's eyes darted from her brown eyes to her pink lips. and not only did she notice but so did belly from across the table.

"steven, i swear to God, if you look at that phone one more time, i'm putting it in the screen basket." his mom snapped.

"it's just, we wanna see your beautiful faces," susannah reasoned. "can dinner be a screen free zone? you know, like the olden days." she added.

when steven didn't listen, jeremiah reached across amelia grabbing his phone and throwing it and landing it in.

"boom! nailed it." he high fived amelia.

steven rolled his eyes, "okay, okay, okay, we get it, you've been working out."

amelia laughed, "you're just jealous because jere has a better body than you."

"uh, no, actually, it's all about the lean look now. otherwise, you can't wear tailored suits." he sassed, causing everyone to fall into laughter.

"tailored suits." conrad repeated with a light chuckle.

"when are you leaving for training camp, man?" steven asked, changing the subject.

"uh, he quit football." jeremiah admitted, reaching to grab his drink but spilling all over amelia's lap.

when the group fell into conversation, jeremiah turned to amelia. "shit, mel, i'm so sorry."

she smiled, "no, no. it's all good." she excused herself and went to her room to clean herself up.

once she was cleaned and had changed again, amelia went back downstairs to hear steven discussing their old cat mochi.

"why are we bringing up mochi?" she asked, taking her seat again. "mochi died? i'm sorry, mel." jeremiah put his hand on hers. he was being a lot more touchy lately and while amelia liked it, it also made her feel very weird and confused. she didn't know if he was doing it because he was bored or if he actually meant it.

"so, what did i miss?"

"umm, conrad quit football and belly's going to be a debutante." steven summed.

"wait, bells gonna be a debb?" amelia smiled widely.

"i don't know, it's not really her thing." her mom answered for her.

"i'll think about it."

"she'll think about it." laurel repeated.

steven was currently in the shower, singing so loud the neighbors probably could hear him.

amelia was trying to finish her book Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, but it was hard to focus with stevens obnoxious singing.

sighing, she took out her head phones and put on her spotify playlist. the first song to play was all too well by taylor swift. amelia had an ungodly obsession with the singer, at her house she had about 3 posters of her, a phone case and 3 of her top album vinyls.

she was humming to the song while reading. it was nice to drown out stevens horrible singing until his sidekick came and bothered her.

amelia didn't hear her door open, but she did feel the tapping on her shoulder.

"can i help you?" she sassed, taking out her headphones.

"i understand you're a nerd, and it's cute, but i wanna watch a movie." he moved her hands from the book, placing the book mark in its respective spot and putting the book on her bed.

"jeremiah.." amelia whined, trying to grab the book just for him to grab her wrist.

"please, mel. i wanna watch a movie with you."

"it's movie night with the moms though. why do we need to watch 2 movies?" she tilted her head. "because i won't be attending movie night. pleaseee," he begged. amelia really couldn't say no to those eyes.

"fine."

"yes!" he fist pumped the air.

"but i pick the movie." she reasoned.

"deal." he agreed, going to turn her light off and then jumped on the bed beside her, placing an arm around her while she grabbed the remote and cuddled up to him.

she was sure of it now. something had changed with jeremiah. only thing is she didn't know if he was showing interest because he actually liked her, or if he was doing it merely because he was bored and wanted to. but one things for sure.. she was going to find out.
