This collection needs more everyday moments.
I can fix that <3

Yuji wrapped the blanket tighter around his lean frame but it was no use. There was no shaking the chill that seemed to have started at the crown of his head and had settled deep below the surface. To say that the cold was seeping into his bones was an exaggeration but try as he might, the cold could not be quelled with blanket or heating pads. Yuji groaned, wiping the sweat from his brow and pressing his palms against his eyes. Where one problem arose, another seemed to follow. Cold sweat, chills, body aches, migraines...

Maggie quickly ladled a warm rice porridge which was seasoned with keishi-to prescription herbs to target the fever, sweating, and headache. Yumiro had suggested it and a kind, older lady gave her advice when she had gone to the local grocery store for the ingredients. The small store was cozy and none of the other patrons really fussed about her presence as they had when she first started going. She was a regular and blended in over time. When she had deposited a hearty amount into a ceramic bowl, she drizzled honey on top. It was very fragrant and pleasant from what she had tasted as she did not like to serve her husband food she wouldn't eat herself.

Maggie made sure the stove top was set to simmer so that the porridge would be ready when Yuji wanted a second or third bowl. Maggie could hear him coughing and groaning from the kitchen so she put more pep in her steps, hurrying to his side. Yuji had his forearm thrown over his eyes and his wife could clearly make out the chattering of his teeth. Yuji hadn't noticed that Maggie had entered the room until she set the steaming bowl on the side table closest to him. Yuji dropped his arm and gave her a weak smile. Maggie placed her hand over his and helped him sit up against the headboard. Stray hairs were sticking out all over his head from the ponytail he wore his hair in. Maggie slipped the band from his hair so that it could fall to his shoulders and massaged his scalp with her fingers. Yuji sighed and he moved his head closer to her hand.

Yuji's face was flushed and as much as Maggie wanted to take him into her arms, she didn't want to take the risk of catching his cold or whatever illness he may have picked up. A week prior, Yuji had been as healthy as a horse and rarely got sick but his trip to his annual solo trip to Mt. Fuji the week before that may have been to blame but Maggie didn't scold him about it and she never planned to...Yuji had been going to Mt. Fuji once a year in remembrance of his departed friend, Ogawa Kida. His last trip marked the third year since Kida's passing and Maggie knew it was still something that weighed heavily on Yuji's conscious.

Yuji caressed the back of Maggie's while she fed him from the bowl with her other one. Yuji's smile widened at the taste of the sweet porridge and his heart swelled with pride at the actions of his wife. Life hadn't been easy for the newlyweds but Maggie was making genuine effort and was adjusting more each day. Their relationship was becoming more natural and so were the feelings they had developed for one another. Maggie blushed when Yuji sucked the porridge off of the spoon. He had locked eyes with her and squeezed her hand gently as a way of showing that he appreciated her presence. Kindness and patience showed in the way that she was looking at him and Yuji was entranced for a moment. He had stopped eating the porridge and just took in the beauty of her face.

Yuji removed his hand from hers and reached out to stroke her cheek gingerly.
"ハニー、大好きだよ..."
(Honey, I love you..)
He said quietly.

Maggie's eyes widened and she smiled, dropping her head in a shy manner. Yuji was affectionate but she was still sometimes caught by surprise when he said things like this to her.
"I love you too, Yuji.. I'm learning to love you for who you truly are. I love you..."

Yuji loved the sound of that. They were all in; mutual effort on both sides, and it was paying off.
Maggie fed him the rest of his porridge until he felt like he had eaten enough and brought him a cold glass of water to wash it all down with. Maggie wiped the sweat from his forehead with a clean rag and retreated back to the kitchen when he fell asleep to her fingers running through his hair.

Maggie's heart was pounding in her chest..
"So this is love..." she spoke quietly and placed her own palm against her chest.
