Now we sit in your car and our love is a ghost. I think I should go, yeah I think you should go... ~💗
Yuji pulled himself out of bed and took a moment to gather himself. Sleep didn't come easy to him and after Maggie had put her feelings out in the open, there seemed to be a strange energy around the home. Yuji pressed his palms into his eyes and tried to ground himself. Maggie's side of the bed was empty, the lack of warmth an indication that she had been gone for quite some time. Yuji looked over his shoulder at her side, disheveled with a yellow notebook on top of her pillow. A few balled up tissues littered the top of her bedside table but this time there was no wine glass... Yuji hoped that this was the start of her sobriety.
He knew what it felt like to drown in the bottom of a glass.. He didn't want that around his children like it had been around him when the picture perfect facade started to go to shit in his childhood home... Things were alot different now.. There were no random women... no high stakes missions... No hard drugs... No Kida.. Turning his wrist over, Yuji started to trace the stenciled dog that represented one of the best friends he had ever had. It's funny how everything that used to mean so much to you could suddenly mean so little. Before Maggie... Before Maggie the lifestyle was all he had cared to know. He'd reached his glass ceiling so to speak. It had served him well enough though he was not proud of it. No.
Maggie had even suggested that Yuji attend therapy of his own. Years of mistrust, hyper vigilance, murder, extortion... Maybe worse..
Now, Yuji thought more highly of himself and his life had true purpose: his wife, his legacy, and keeping himself in shape so that he could see his children grow. Yes, nine years had come and gone but his vigilance was still laser focused. Nobody was going to come into this home.. come into his life... and bring back the version of himself he kept locked away from his children.
And he thought he was doing a damn good job but now he felt unpleasant...
Now he rarely drank alcohol unless his nerves were really shot.. There were far better remedies than that but Yuji wasn't a perfect man nor was he trying to be.
What he needed was a shower... preferably a cold one. His body was tense all over and it didn't help the fatigue that currently wracked his body due to his lack of a good night's sleep. An idle mind was Yuji's own personal hell. Once he got too deep in his own head, it was a chore to get out. He stripped out of his clothes quickly and felt all of his senses heighten when the glacial water swept over his skin. He couldn't succumb like this... He was the head of the household... The foundation of their family.. a family he could only dream of especially considering the line of work he had come from.. Things like this weren't supposed to work out for people like him: a wife, children, a two story house in a quiet neighborhood... That kind of thing.
Yuji supposed that back then the only options he had was his loyalty to his boss or somewhere dead in a ditch. How could he keep a wife when he couldn't even tolerate a girlfriend? What did he know of being a father when he'd been raised by a man who didn't even know how to be a father himself? What could he pass on to his children? How to get rid of a body and prevent an overdose after a long weekend of snorting coke? These were the types of things he had been used to.
Yuji was towel drying his hair when he wondered upon Maggie busying herself in the kitchen. He couldn't hear the children but didn't panic because it was Thursday: daycare. Socializing was essential for everyone and the parents agreed that daycare would do Ryeo and Asami good. Ryeo was a quiet boy, peaking around corners and drawing pictures, most of which filled up the surface of the family's large refrigerator. He stuck close to his grandma and was patient with his younger sister. Asami was hard headed like her mother and was always trying to do whatever Ryeo was doing despite her size. Maggie and Yuji couldn't be prouder of their children and sheltering them would do them no favors.
