Ryeo propped his head on his hand and stared out the window.

His father had come to pick him up from school and a comfortable silence fell over the car's occupants.

Yuji took his eyes off of the road and watched his son out of the corner of his eye.

His young son was now a man...
Ryeo always received high marks on his assignments, watched over his sisters well and mostly kept to himself. Ryeo reminded Yuji of himself when he was younger.. Who he used to be before he turned to the Yakuza...

Ryeo turned away from the window and gave his father a questioning look.
"I know when you're staring at me, father.. What have I done?"

Yuji smiled softly and turned his eyes back to the road. Ryeo watched his father with a confused face and waited for his response but it never came. Ryeo noticed that they weren't taking their usual route home. He tried to pinpoint what he had done wrong..

Yuji stopped them next to a park and got out of the car. Ryeo followed and Yuji motioned toward an empty bench.

Yuji sat down first and Ryeo was starting to get nervous.
"You haven't done anything wrong, well not that I know of. Is your conscious guilty? What have you done?"

Ryeo shook his head.
"Why are we here, dad?"

Yuji ruffled his son's curly hair and his heart swelled with pride. Although Ryeo was seventeen years old, Yuji still couldn't believe that he had been blessed with such an obedient and skilled son. He thought back to how he swore off having them in his youth because his own relationship with his father had ended so poorly. He was scared. The grief would be too great if he had raised Ryeo the same way whether it was unintentional or not.

Ryeo had ambition and he made them proud.

Yuji wrapped his arms around his son and embraced him in a tight, fatherly hug.
"Do I need a reason to spend time with my only son?"

Ryeo smiled and hugged his father back.

"You can do anything you set your mind to, Ryeo. Takahashi men are strong and we are not without our faults. Somebody soon.. I know that I'll have to tell you about my youth. But that's a story for another time. Make something of yourself, my son... You will always have my full support as long as what you're doing doesn't harm others.. I'm telling you this because I wish my father had done the same for me when I was your age. You've made your mother and I very proud."

Ryeo let the tears fall from his eyes still embracing his father as silence fell over them both.
