"WAKE UP! CODE RED EVERYBODY!!!!" We hear the emergency system Max created through the speakers. I get up as quick as I can and run, my first thought is to get to the kids. Conrad runs to join the guys at the weapon room. I find Janie already with the kids, getting them out of bed and organized for the emergency protocol we created. Julie goes to the medical area to get as many supplies as she can gather. I head to the kitchen area, gathering as much food as I can. Then we all meet in the middle of the camp. The kids are carrying anything they want to keep and supplies. Janie and Julie are also carrying supplies too. Conrad meets us and makes sure everyone is there. "Be safe, come back. I love you Amaria." He says, giving me a kiss on the lips. "I love you too." "Ok everyone. Get in a circle." We do, and he transports us out of the camp and into the safe house we all agreed on in case of an emergency. Once we get there, we hurry the kids inside, not wanting to take any chances. We get them into their bedrooms. They are usually bouncing with energy, but now they are silent and serious. I guess they understand the danger we are in. Lacey comforts the rest of the kids. She acts like a mother to them sometimes.
After we get the kids settled in the safe house, we try to get everything else settled. We put the food away, the medical supplies, and clothes away. We try to make this house as warm and comforting as possible. And then we wait. We wait for any kind of sign. Part of the protocol is that the guys will send a signal if they need us, or me to join the fight. Like I said, I'm one of the strongest, so I am called into the fight whenever things are going wrong. Not only do we wait for that signal, but we wait for the guys to come back to us.
Hopefully all of them do. But I can't shake the memory of what happened to Shawn. And I know I'm not alone. All we can do is pray and hope that they all make it.
About 2 hours later, we got a signal alert. Janie, Julie and I sit up straight as we hold our breath, praying it's not bad. It's Sam. Fight isn't going well. We need help. Have Amaria come. Have Janie be ready to heal when we get back. I jump up and immediately run to my room, even though it's extremely hard at this point. Janie and Julie help me put on my war clothes, and then I jump into the water and use my powers to take myself back to the island. One of my powers is that I can get into water and it takes me anywhere I need to go.
When I get to the island, I stay low, scoping out the fight. It seems like the fight has advanced from the water into the camp. Fires are everywhere, our lovely home for the last eight and a half months is in ruins. Everything is gone. I make my way to the middle of the island where the signal came from. I use my powers to sense if there are people in the area before I move. Sensing no enemies, I move in. Sam is there, waiting for me. "Hey, fill me in. What can I do?" I say, still looking around and observing my surroundings. "Ok, so when they advanced into the camp, there were way too many of them. We couldn't hold them off. We found a bunker to hide in, but our powers aren't enough to fend them off. That's when I sent the signal. Conrad doesn't know about it. Luke told me not to tell him because he wouldn't have let you come. Anyway, we need your powers. And Max got hurt, so he can't fight right now. He is still using his eyesight, but I can tell it's taking his strength away. We were planning to transport him to Janie, as soon as you got here."
I stop and think for a moment. "Ok, go ahead and send him to Janie. I'll go to the others and get ready to fight. But we need to keep absolutely silent, we can't afford to tip them off. We have to have a plan before they attack again. Trust me. They will come back. Humans are definitely relentless. Their armies will not stop until they either win the battle or their superior tells them to stop. We need to overpower them, we need to beat them at their own game. We also need to stay together, to remain a team. If we don't do that, then we have already given them a way to beat us." "You're right Amaria. Ok, the bunker is this way." He says, and I follow him. When we get there, Conrad looks like he's ready to explode. "WHY IS AMARIA HERE? SHE SHOULD BE RESTING. SHE DOESN'T NEED TO BE INVOLVED IN A FIGHT RIGHT NOW." He whispers harshly, apparently still aware of the enemy around us. "Stop Conrad. I'm here because you guys need me, and I can help. You know how strong I am, you know how much I can do in a fight. It doesn't matter if you think I can't handle this right now, I'm here and I'm strong enough to fight. End of story." I say, with a decisive tone. He stares at me and I stare right back. Finally, he looks away. I always seem to win these staring wars, mainly because I'm a lot more stubborn than he is. After he transports Max back to Janie, I look at everyone. "Ok. let's go win this battle." I say, and we run into it, ready to take the battle head on.
