Horses footsteps disturbed the silence of the decayed forest as Kai made his return back to the kingdom along with the remaining men from his army. The number had been stripped down to 100 men the battle was horrific for both sides but at least Kai had managed to make it out so he could return to his queen. But he knew deep down that she wouldn't be pleased with the news he was bringing with him and it scared him.
The kingdoms gates loomed over the remaining men the details in them almost makes it look like there's two grim reapers looking down at them with their scythe intertwined with each other. Kai swallowed the built up saliva in his throat before he made his horse step towards the looming gates as the two scythes began to move allowing the gate to swing open. The towns people flinched as all eyes locked onto the opening gate and the men entering through it some of the people noticed that their loved ones weren't there and looked away with grief plastered on their faces.
Kai's head hung low as he tried to think of something to say when he finally made it into the castle where he would be faced with the queen. A dark shadow appeared around the corner of a building looking at the group of men as a demon tail perked out and wagged out of excitement a small giggle escaped the figure as they disappeared. The gates slowly began to close again as the locked shut caging everyone inside once more. Crows flew over the village cawing loudly sending shivers down the peoples back no other birds dared enter the kingdom and there was no colour either it was just grey and black. And even when a small bit of colour came through the monochrome palette it was mostly the oranges and yellows of a fire being lit to dispose of corpses.
The sound of hooves against stone filled the empty castle square signalling that they have arrived to their final destination. Kai got off his horse slowly holding its reins leading them to their stable taking off the bridle carefully and then the saddle.
"Good boy.." Kai said softly as he patted the side of the horses neck. "I'll be back with your dinner later.."
The horse simply just huffed and went to lay down on their hay bed after a long night. Kai went into the storage area and put the saddle and the bridle on his hanger carefully making sure that he wouldn't damage it.
"Kai! You returned!" A voice called out from behind the weakened knight.
Kai turned around to look at the source of the voice seeing a figure standing just outside the light of the lit lantern. Another guard stepped into view as the light reflected off their silver amour and spear he was a white wolf with long white hair tied into a braid and celeste coloured eyes he also had a piercing in his left ear.
"Ah hello there Fang." Kai said as he gave a small smile to the wolf in front of him.
Fang smiled as he hugged his commander being extremely happy to see him return to the kingdom. Kai tensed up as he tried fighting his way out from the wolfs grip but had no success in doing so, so he just accepted his fate and let him hug him. After a while Fang finally let go and smiled happily Kai didn't understand how he could smile when he was under the rule of such a heartless person like Comet.
"Should I inform Queen Comet of your return?" Fang asked.
Kai hesitated before nodding fixing his uniform to hide any damage that had been made to it before standing up straight with his hands placed behind his back. Fang nodded as he walked off inside the darkened castle where the only thing that was giving light where the candles that were floating in the empty hall ways.
The sky had gone dark with clouds as a storm started to form. Soon there was rain pattering against the windows and the winds howled loudly. Thunder clashed loudly against the ground causing a blinding white flash of light to appear in the dark sky.
Comet sat in her room writing in her journal when suddenly the silence was disturbed by a loud knocking at her door. She gripped the quill harshly threating to snap it as she stood up opening her door to see who had disturbed her to find that nobody was there.
"I am not in the mood to play games Luna." Comet hissed in annoyance as she turned around to see the black figure standing in the centre of her room.
The demon giggled as she showed herself to the annoyed queen with a smug look on her face tucking her wings behind her back. Luna was summoned from Hell to assist Comet but instead she chooses to annoy Comet by playing pranks on her and her men which only angers the queen more.
"What do you want." Comet snarled.
"Your little pet is back~" Luna hummed as her tail swayed from side to side.
Comets expression didn't change as she glared down at the demon in front of her as she left the room bumping into the white wolf who was making his way to her chambers. Comet hissed in surprised as she looked at Fang with annoyance in her eyes. Fang squeaked in surprise as he looked at the queen bowing down in respect quickly waiting to be spoken too.
"What do you want Fang." Comet said angrily crossing her arms.
"Kai has returned your highness.." Fang said as he kept his head low and his ears pinned back.
"I'm aware." Comet said coldly. "Now get out my sight before I move you myself."
Fang gulped shakily as he quickly hurried away from the queen disappearing from view as Comet went in the other direction to go find Kai. Kai had finally made his way into the castle with his head low still being ashamed that he couldn't do that task that was assigned to him his uniform had been drenched with water from the new storm that had covered the kingdom. Loud heeled footsteps echoed through the hall as Comet walked towards the knight who stood in front of her.
"Your majesty!" Kai said as he bowed down to her holding a hand behind his back while the other rested across his chest.
"What happened." Comet asked looking at the state he was in.
"U-Uh well.." Kai stuttered as he stood back up to look at the queen trying to act unfazed by her harsh gaze. "We weren't fully prepared. They outnumbered us and King Nightmare almost slayed me." Kai confessed.
Comet had a look of pure hatred on her face. "You had one job Kai. You could've taken the men from the kingdom that we captured."
Kai flinched and looked away knowing she was right but he was too stupid to think of something like that. Was it stupidity? Or did he just want to show her that he could be useful with the sources he had with him. Comet sighed annoyed as she held a hand to her forehead before looking back at the drenched guard in front of her.
"We'll have to plan another attack this time we'll double the men and maybe we'll get the kingdom this time." Comet hissed turning her back away from them.
"Wait!" Kai said suddenly.
Comet stopped dead in her tracks as she turned her head back to look at him with a unimpressed look on her face. "What Kai."
"Queen Flower is there.." Kai said softly.
Comets expression warped into a look of anger as the backdrops to her eyes turned pitch black leaving her bright purple iris's as she grabbed the guard with magic tightly slamming him against a pillar.
"And you're just telling me this now?! That should've been the first thing you told me you moron!" Comet yelled as her magical grip tightened around the levitated guard.
Kai was dazed from the impact as a loud ringing filled his ears and the world around him began to spin it wasn't long until the guard passed out in the queens grip. Comets expression slowly changed from anger to concern when she realised that Kai had gone limp as she quickly brought him down to her.
"Kai..?" Comet asked softly as she shook him carefully.
Kai didn't respond as his head limped forward.
Comet began to panic as she took Kai to his chambers quickly. For once Comet was scared.
She didn't want to loose her closest friend..
