MIRABEL: FOUND YOU!
LAYLA: Oh! Mirabel, hi!
CAMILO: Hey . . .
"No need to be so happy to see me," Mirabel said sarcastically.
"She was just about to say something important!" Camilo protested.
Layla noticed how he was trying hard not to look at her or say her name and looked down.
MIRABEL: I've been looking for you and your brother everywhere. Is he here?
LAYLA: Uh, no. He said he was going to explore the town a bit. What do you need us for?
"Sure. Just "exploring"."
Leo just sighed and told himself that it didn't matter. Only Layla mattered and that was how it would be.
MIRABEL: Oh, I could've given him a tour. If he wanted, that is! I hope I'm not coming off too overbearing on him! Ay, dios mios, I'm—
Mirabel blushed and tried to look anywhere but in Leo's direction. She couldn't help but wonder if anything he'd said was real or if he was just playing her for information for the Marauders.
Would it be bad if she wished he was being honest in those moments?
Mirabel and Camilo locked eyes. Since the song, he'd moved closer to them so that he could be hugged by the entire Madrigal family. He knew what kind of dilemma she was going through right now, seeing as he'd quite obviously fallen for the female twin.
Camilo shrugged, as if to say he, too, was confused about his feelings.
So Mirabel sighed and focused back on the film.
LAYLA: (CHUCKLES) Mirabel, no. You're fine. He just likes going off on his own a lot. He does it all the time.
CAMILO: (GROANS) Can you guys have your weird lady-like somewhere else?
MIRABEL: Camilo, don't be dumb!
"My mistake," Mirabel joked. "That's too much for Camilo to handle."
Only a few people laughed. Camilo looked at his closest cousin gratefully for trying to distract people from his "moment" a few minutes ago.
LAYLA: It's alright. We can go. This sounds important, anyway.
CAMILO: Wait, Layla! You were going to tell me something important!
LAYLA: I was?
CAMILO: Yeah!
LAYLA: I don't recall anything of the sort.
MIRABEL: Yeah, we gotta go, bye!
LAYLA: (GRUNTS)
MIRABEL: (WHOOPS)
LAYLA: (GASPS) I love your house!
"Then why are you trying to destroy it?" Abuela snapped.
This time, it was Casita who answered, her voice sharp as a knife. "They aren't, Alma. Don't keep accusing them of things until the movie is over. I can't make you be friends with them again, but at least be civil!"
Abuela said nothing. Alma and Pedro glanced at the twins, wondering how two kids who looked so sweet could be the descendants of Pedro's murderer.
(CASITA CREAKS)
MIRABEL: (CHUCKLES) She loves you, too.
"I pride myself in being an excellent judge of character," Casita said suddenly. Sounds of disbelief were heard among mutters of a mistake being made.
