"Excuse me?" Mina asked, taken aback. "Lucy, you know I can't."
Lucy almost rolled her eyes. "Damn whatever society says, I want to kiss you." Lucy mumbled while turning to face her friend. "But I'd like your permission first. I'm not one to force a woman to do anything she does not wish to do."
'Of course she has to say it in the most polite way possible.' Mina thought.
Having someone ask her permission to kiss her was something new to her. Even Jonathan forwent asking. Even when the two were just newly a couple, Jonathan never asked to kiss Mina. He just did so, as if it was his right. Mina wondered if people were supposed to ask permission to kiss someone. Of course, kissing was still a highly indecent act. Yet Lucy knew so, and she still asked. She could have stolen a kiss from where she was laying, yet she asked.
The thought of kissing another woman—no—Lucy, appealed to Mina. Lucy Westenra was a stunning woman, even Mina had to admit. Lucy has many suitors, almost too many. She once wrote to Mina about three men who had proposed to her and she was both overjoyed and overwhelmed.
"Okay." Mina breathed finally.
Lucy seemed to perk up. "Really? I can kiss you?" She sounded much too excited. Something she must've noticed as she quieted down immediately.
"Didn't you say you wanted me to kiss you?" Mina asked slyly with a grin. Lucy sat there looking a red, stuttering mess. Mina laughed lightly at the sight of her friend. Lucy, impossibly, turned an even darker shade of red as Mina came closer to her.
Warmth blossomed in Lucy's chest, sparks igniting as Mina leaned in close, their lips brushing together. It was tentatively, for it was the first time the two had kissed like this. With such intimacy. The smell of Mina, of the soft, lavender scent of her conditioner, was dizzying. Butterflies began dancing waltzes in Lucy's stomach. But warmth consumed her as she leaned into the kiss, Mina's lips impossibly soft against her own. Her lips were so soft, almost silken, and pillowy against Lucy's own. She could feel the soft tickle of Mina's breath beneath her nose, fingers carding through her hair as they breathed each other in.
Lucy pulled back first, something Mina did not expect. She seemed to have a different light in her eyes. One of guilt almost.
"No..." she breathed against Mina. "You're with Jonathan. You seem to be very much in love with him and you seem truly devoted to him. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have."
A wave of something went through Mina. She couldn't place it, but it seemed to be a mix of yearning and disappointment. 'No.' She thought. She couldn't feel this way. She was to be married to Jonathan. The man she loved.
"Right..." Mina expressed. Displeasure hung on her voice, causing an ache in Lucy's chest where the warm once was. Mina moved away, her warmth leaving with her. She made her way to the other side of the room, closed the lights and came back towards the bed. Mina sat down, sighing as she did so. "Good night, Lucy."
"Good night." Lucy replied. Faintly hearing Mina utter a 'I'm sorry' under her breath, she turned over and closed her eyes. If only her mind would rest as she wished it would.
The same thoughts from the early morning plagued their way into her mind. Her mind wandered through the ideas of two women being in love; if two women could be together just as a man could be with a woman. What could've happened if that was a reality?
Would the kiss lead to something more? Bodies pressed together heatedly against a wall or a bedpost. Heavy breathing as lips pressed together. Would Lucy be able to taste their shared breath? Feel the thud of a combined heartbeat as the two fumbled to take off one another's clothes? To feel Mina's frame leaning on hers as the brunette's arms wrapped around. Mina could pull her in, claiming her mouth for a second time, hungry and intense, until Lucy's knees would give in. The two could kiss as if no one else existed and there was no risk of people watching the show from behind their curtains. And for Mina, as if she'd never been shy to begin with.
Lucy's mind wondered about the sounds she could steal from Mina. She pondered what type of gasps, moans, and other sinful sounds could come from Mina's perfect voice. What type of pleasurable screams and whimpers could Lucy elicit from Mina.
Yet again, Lucy's corrupt thoughts were only broken by Mina's soft voice, coming from beside her.
"Luce?" Mina whispered into the darkness. "Are you still up?"
Lucy shifted to face her, surprised Mina was already oriented towards her. "What's wrong? Hangover, as they call it?" She asked, moving a stray strand of hair away from Mina's face. Lucy may be drunk, but just as her hatred for Jonathan, her love for Mina could never be swayed. "I have a stuttering headache." She whispered, rolling her eyes in a playful manner.
"I'm cold, Lucy." Mina said, her eyes dancing around yet never meeting Lucy's eyes.
Lucy decided to be coy. "And what do you wish for me to do?" She asked with an eyebrow raise. Lucy also didn't truly know what she was to do. "Shall I fetch you more blankets?"
Mina thought for a moment before answering. "No," she decided. "Just come closer to me." Mina coaxed, holding her arms out. Lucy didn't move. "Come now, Lucy. I'll pull you here myself. Don't think I won't." Mina teased, causing Lucy to go pink.
"Okay, I yield. You may have me." Lucy responded. She knew she must've sounded quite flustered, granted she was, but she hoped the darkness held her secret true. "Good night, darling."
Mina smiled silently at the nickname. "Good night, Lucy dear. I'll see you in the morning."
