10. conscience

leafy

i wake up to voices. they sound like my...teammates?
i try to get up, but my arms and legs are tied together by vines.

i look around and spot rose pacing back and forth, murmuring to itself.

"uuurgh. rose, what are you doing now? what kind of sick trick do you have up your sleeve..."

i hope rose doesn't do something stupid like kissing someone to take control of them.

i'm very upset over that.

"shh. be quiet. it's very important, i promise."

"don't you think you're taking this too far? all of this could've been resolved with a talk."

it stops to look at me. "he killed you, leafy. he didn't even consider if you'd live riding on that ferris wheel."

"but... we had the recovery centers! firey even recovered me all that time ago. he still cares, doesn't he?"

"uhuh. the recovery centers... but wouldn't it matter to him more that you'd live after riding the ferris wheel? also, he chose to ignore you."

"yeah, you're right." i couldn't even care less at this point. it's useless trying to fight back.

rose turns its attention away from me, practicing tediously to imitate my teammate's voices. i hear it act out a few lines:

"loser, help me! wait, no. cake doesn't sound like that."

"hey cake, loser's spirit is telling me you have to come here! hmm...would eggy even say that?"

rose turns to face me. "leafy, this would be going a lot smoother if you interacted with your teammates more. it'd be easier to imitate their personalities if you even knew them."

i look back at rose, appalled. "yeesh. my team didn't even like me. whatever, just...go back to whatever you're doing.

i can't interfere with its plan anyways. last time i did, it was when i alerted coiny, and rose knocked me out and tied me up.

speaking of which...i hope coiny understood my warnings.

"heh, hey leafy, how does this impression of coiny sound? pin, come here, quick!"

"it's terrible. it doesn't even sound close to him," i snap.

"oh, don't lie to me, leafy...i spent some time with him-i kissed him, even! i know what his voice sounds like! and to be honest, i think i got it spot on. pin is going down for sure."

i made a sour face at it. i had to watch that moment unravel with my own eyes. "why are you taking advantage of my teammates-of coiny!? what do you get out of this!?"

it scoffs at me. "you really...don't understand? i'm just making sure firey suffers alone, with nobody out there to protect him. besides, i need more help for my cause. y'know, get more people on my side...which is why i made a move on coiny."

tch. you probably kissed coiny to get on my nerves. your 'cause,' my a-

"so!" rose clasps its hands together. "i think i'm ready. now, leafy, wouldn't you be a dearie and help me find our fellow teammates? you don't have a choice, really."

i sighed. "fine."

...

"just keep walking. we'll find our way out of here eventually." i look at rose. it's silent, seemingly deep in thought. "hey, rose."

"hm?"

"why... are you doing... this?"

"to help you. to help you get revenge on firey."

"nonono, not that. like, if firey and i didn't have this problem, what would you be doing?"

"finding another depressed person to take advantage of."

"...yeah. and why would you be doing that?"

"hmm..." rose looks up, as if it were looking through the folders of its brain. "yeah, uhh, i have an empty hole in my life i want to fill by causing the downfall of others. definitely. mhm."

i look at it unamused. no chance getting the truth out of it, i guess.

"sometimes you just want to watch the world burn."

"actually, that would be a better explanation. alright, we're out of the forest. now what?"

this whole "2 people in one conscience" thing was originally created by my friend but i helped out write/determine the plot too so.???? i still get credit i think ?? LOL
Also... im debating whether or not leafy will share the same fate my friend's character did....🙃🙃
