tw: mentions of vomiting/blood

coiny

a shrill scream pulls me out of unconsciousness. i'm still recovering from asphyxia, so my mind takes longer to process what's happening.

i move my eyes. i see golf ball and tennis ball running over, golf ball nearly spilling the antidote.

i move my hands ever so slightly. i feel the texture of grass and something...wet...grazes my fingers.

i try to breathe. small, short gasps escape my mouth, my lungs still struggling. everything hurts.

the air smells like rust.
the ringing continues.

i see golf ball's mouth moving, her eyes darting between something on the ground and tennis ball. the ringing is too loud for me to hear her. she stands up, mumbles something to tennis ball, and moves a few feet away. she hunches over and vomits.

tennis ball closes his eyes and winces, as if repressing his own urge to vomit as well. he takes a deep breath, says something to golf ball, and kneels down to examine something.

"didn't hit...vital organs..."

the ringing subsides. golf ball manages to make her way over to me, checking for a pulse. she laughs, relieved yet still shocked.

"coiny's alive."

golf ball sits me up, and i finally see the whole picture. injuries covered my exposed skin, and my clothes suffered from tears. i barely inched my head to look over at tennis ball, who was bandaging leafy around the chest.

my short breaths became quicker. my mind was reeling. leafy, what did you do?

i noticed the blood stained knife tennis ball had pulled out of leafy.

she...she killed herself.

i tried to vomit at the sight, but my throat was too sore and i only heaved up blood.

leafy was bleeding out.
i felt her blood.
we were lying in her blood.

i gagged at the thought. i felt like fainting again. this can't be real.

golf ball's voice keeps me tethered from escaping reality. "coiny, g-get yourself together! leafy will be fine, just stay alive for us, please, please..."

tennis ball picked up leafy and hauled her over his shoulder. "golf ball, we need to go."

she nods and helps me up. with all my effort, i manage to get up on my feet. i stagger from the pain of fighting, but i cope with it and walk (with golf ball's help) to the lab.

...

the faint sound of beeping wakes me from my daze once more. bright fluorescent lights assault my vision, causing me to squint. i look away to my right: firey sits up, slowly spooning himself a bowl of soup. i turn to my left: leafy lays on a similar hospital-like bed, her chest slowly rising and falling as an indication that she's alive and breathing.

i'm so relieved.

the three of us had tubes running everywhere. i breathed in, realizing i was given a mask supplying extra oxygen. i felt a little better, but i was still worried about leafy's state.

shuffling could be heard and i felt a small pressure on the side of my bed. i blink to adjust my eyes to the face towering above me. there was a bandage covering the side of her face, along with many other gauzes. bright red hair reflected the lights, and a slight smile let me recognize who it was.

"p...pin," i barely breathe out. she was missing her signature metal crown, but i knew her all too well.

"coiny...!" she smiles through tears. "i'm so sorry, i'm so sorry...i should've been protecting you...you were right...i'm sorry, sorry..." pin trails off, her words mixing with her sobs. she falls down to plant her face into the bed, her hair spilling everywhere and the mattress absorbing her tears. i move my hand to pat her head, slightly calming her.

i look in front of me. the rest of the losers shuffled around the room, tending to the three of us. they weren't affected as much as we were, so they were able to move about. like pin, they had bandages covering the areas where rose must've controlled them. golf ball and tennis ball were nowhere to be seen. they must be exhausted.

needle walks up to me. "do you feel better, coiny? can you eat?" she asks, offering a bowl of soup. i tried to get up-a slight twinge pulsed through my body, but i managed to endure it. i nodded and accepted the offering.

i slowly finished my soup, throwing glances towards leafy.

★★★★★

703 words. Oops, got a bit too into it (regular chapter is like 300-400 words).

Gonna pick up this fic again, so i'll update more frequently, but no art for now because I think that's what was really causing me to procrastinate.

I genuinely like writing this fic, not so much drawing for it. Sorry :/

while i was writing i was asking myself "is this too much? the other chapters don't really get into stuff like this, but then again, its sort of only getting to the 'good part.'"
Been squinting throughout this because this is basically the first time i've written something like this, so i wasn't sure (my search history might be questionable)
