Your engine's on fire.

Scary thought. You're thousands of feet in the air and the only thing stopping your metal deathtrap from hurtling into the ground- has gone up in flames.

While certainly a more frightening concept to the average civilian, it definitely isn't a Naval Aviator's best friend. Neither are birds.

"Coyote, Pheonix, Bob. You're up." Maverick announces as we exit the changing rooms.

All three hurry to their planes, getting set up. The moment they are cleared for takeoff, a sinking feeling descends through my body. I tense. They're in the air.

We gather around, watching the screen with intense focus, hardly daring to blink.

"Wait who's that?" Bob's voice sounds through the room.

"Blue team, you've been spotted." Maverick.

"Shit. It's Maverick."

Who else would it be Coyote? I don't see Cyclone doing anything even remotely fun.

"What is he doing here?" Phoenix sounds calm.

It's reassuring.

Hangman sits there, smirking as he watches, while Payback and Fanboy whisper to each other. Bradley doesn't utter a word, looking worried as always. Never because he doubts their abilities of course. He simply likes to be there to support his friends, ensure their safety. It's sweet but a lethal fault I suppose; considering he'd sacrifice himself for them without a second thought.

But I can't say much.

"I'm a bandit on course to intercept. Blue team, what you gonna do?" Maverick questions.

"He's twenty miles left, Ten o'clock." Bob informs them.

A short pause follows.

"Your call, what do you wanna do?" Didn't see him being the indecisive type. But I can't blame Coyote for letting Phoenix choose.

"Continue, we're close. Stay on target."

"He's swinging round to the north-"

Maybe this wasn't the best call actually. Maverick will catch them on the climb out at that rate. We all know it.

Hangman scoffs and smirks, seeing their mistake immediately. Along with commenting on their ability to dodge on the climb out. As if he could do any better.

"Standby for drop off." Coyote.

"Be ready on that laser Bob." Phoenix.

"Okay, I'm on it." Bob.

"Blue team, bandit is still closing." Maverick announces, as if they could have forgotten.

"Popping now!"

They hit the first climb, pulling up hard, sounds of their struggle crackle though the radio- invert...

"Talk to me Bob, where's Maverick?"

"He's five miles out, he's coming fast"

 Dive.

Still no problems but that's just the easy bit.

"Target's in sight."

"Where's my laser Bob?" Coyote sounds too calm now.

"DEAD EYE DEAD EYE, It's no good. Sorry, I can't get a lock." Panic laces Bob's voice.

"We're out of time, I'm dropping blind- damn it, missed.

Shit.

Hangman laughs loudly.
