Rowan Henderson

     Rowan Henderson was once described as colorful. She was bright in every aspect. She was almost at the top of her class, her clothes were always vibrant, and her hair was always an unnatural color. She loved to be around colors, it brought her peace. However, that colorful nature of hers seemed to dull after the tragedy that took place at the Hawkins mall over the summer.

Rowan was the oldest of the Henderson siblings, which meant she would always protect her brother, no matter what. She had become more protective after what happened to Will when Dustin was only twelve. She was no stranger to the cruel truth of what happened in Hawkins.

Rowan fought alongside her best friend, and secret girlfriend of two years, Ellis Jones. Nancy Wheeler, Steve Harrington, and Jonathan Byers were also in the Byers household when the Upside Down first made its awful appearance. Then, Ellis and Rowan helped defeat the Demodogs, something her brother insisted she called them. But then, the most traumatic fight happened.

The Henderson girl remembers that day like it happened the night before. The fear trembled throughout her entire body, Rowan's ear-shattering screams as she watched the Mind Flayer kill her first love. She can still recall the feeling of her heartbreaking. She can still feel Dustin, Steve, and Robin holding her back while she was desperately trying to get to her. Her Ellis.

Rowan met Ellis Jones on the first day of eighth grade. Rowan had her head down in her English textbook when Ellis asked to sit with her. From that day on, they were hooked on each other and they never left each other's side. After three years of friendship, Rowan started to feel weird around Ellis. She started to notice how beautiful she was. The way her gorgeous eyes squinted when she laughed, how soft her lips looked, everything about Ellis drove Rowan crazy. She wanted to be more than friends, and then, one day Rowan got drunk and confessed everything to Ellis.

Ellis was shocked, to say the least, but not as shocked as Rowan was when Ellis admitted to liking the girl back. They both were beyond happy. Until the night Ellis died.

They were throwing fireworks at the Mind Flayer. Ellis was lighting a firework when the lighter slipped out of her hands and slid across the mall floor. Rowan quickly ran to get it but froze in her place when she looked up to see the Mind Flayer standing above her. Ellis ran over just in time to shove her out of the impact, and in return lost her own life. Rowan was a mess seeing the girl of her dreams lifeless and her shirt covered in holes, and blood.

The only ones who knew of Rowan and Ellis were Dustin, Steve, and Robin. Robin had been a close friend of Rowan and Ellis seeing as they were in the same grade and had a lot in common. The three promised to never speak a word of Rowan being bi-sexual, but after that night she didn't want to hide anymore. She felt regret when she looked back at their relationship. She wished she would have yelled out her love for Ellis when she had the chance, but Rowan and Ellis both knew it wouldn't have been safe to.

Now, Rowan was helpless. She was barely sleeping, rarely eating, and turned to drugs and self-harm as a way to cope. She didn't like feeling addicted to something. To feel her skin crawling when she didn't have any drugs in her body. The feeling of muscle aches, restlessness, the reoccurring nightmares she had ever since that night, she just couldn't stand the thought of sobriety.

Rowan has completely given up on the thought of ever returning to her old self, she considered herself emotionally dead, but what happens when Eddie Munson makes a promise to himself to help bring the girl back to life?
