Meanwhile

One month. Kill her before we do it for you.

Another message from them.

Fuck.

The urgency of their message hits me and I can almost literally feel them breathing down my neck.

I knew that killing Aaliyah as a diversion wouldn't be foolproof, but I didn't realize that they would see through my bullshit so soon.

Lilith isn't here, thank fuck, because she went to talk to Sophia about Jax, but that doesn't ease my nerves the way it should. She's out there by herself and since she doesn't know about them, she wouldn't know to be extra vigilant.

I can't exactly tell her that she shouldn't be out and about because she could die. Knowing her, she would ask too many questions, questions I'm not ready to answer.

They could get impatient with me and kill her right now, and I wouldn't know.

I've always been a good agent. Granted that was before the asylum but I've never had so much trouble completing a mission until now.

The exception here is that Lilith isn't just a "mission" anymore. She's mine, in every way possible and I would kill anyone who harmed her, including myself.

I know better than to go against an entire agency because I wouldn't stand a chance. They hold so much over me, but I can't do this. Not to Lilith. Even if it costs me everything.

They are making obvious it that they are watching me, considering this is the third message I've gotten since the misfortune cookie.

"There will be consequences," was the first message, and "A bullet to her head would do the trick," was the second one.

A simple deadline is the third message and I know that it's the last one I'll get. I'm surprised they even sent so many because from what I know, they would've already killed her after I went no-contact and ignored their fortune cookie message.

"What the fuck am I going to do?" I mutter out loud and Lilith must've heard me because she closes the door behind her and says, "hopefully me."

It happened again.

As soon as she walked in the front door smiling, I didn't care about them anymore. All I see is her, and I want to protect her. I have to protect her.

"You're being bold today," I counter and she smacks the back of my head as she walks past me to head to the kitchen. "I take it the conversation with Sophia didn't go well?"
