"Hey mom." I said, pressing my phone to my ear."Hey honey, everything okay?" My moms voice rang out through the phone.
"Yeah everything's good. Are you free today?" Josh was sitting beside me, legs crossed with his fingers tapping on my knee.
"I sure am, why?"
"Well, I have a surprise for you, and I wanted to know if I could come over later." I smiled at Josh, and he smiled back.
I had been holding off telling my mom that Josh was here, and I'm not really sure why. Since we moved she's been very adamant on keeping the past behind us. Despite talking about the Kiszkas constantly, and talking about how she wishes she wouldn't have left the way she did. She would be thrilled to see Josh, and thrilled to get to apologize to him.
"Oh my God, are you pregnant?" She quickly asked, her voice sounding scared.
"Definitely not." I chuckled, and heard her sigh of relief. "But when can I come over?"
"Whenever, really."
"Great, I'll be on the way in an hour, I love you bye." I abruptly hung up before turning to see Josh smiling.
"I'm excited." Josh smiled with anticipation, tapping his fingers faster. "Should we bring cookies or something? What about muffins?"
"I mean, if you want to." I chuckled, and he hopped up.
"Can I use the cookie dough in your fridge?" He asked, opening the fridge door and peering in.
"Yeah, I'm gonna get in the shower."
I yanked the shower curtain open and quickly bathed, scrubbing myself clean before stepping back out again.
"Hey Bo-" Josh started, walking into the bedroom and past the bathroom doorframe.
"AH!" I yelled, slamming the bathroom door shut.
"Oh God! I didn't think the door would be open!" Josh yelled, and I quickly found a towel to wrap around myself.
"Okay, I'm covered now!" I yelled, and opened the door back up. His eyes met the towel wrapped around me and he gulped, switching his gaze to his own feet.
"What container do you want me to put the cookies in?" He asked, still staring at his fidgeting feet.
"I'll show you." I said, tucking my towel into itself and walking to the kitchen.
"I'm really sorry Bo." Josh said, sucking his teeth.
"It's fine, you didn't see anything did you?" I turned and asked, and he shook his head.
"Then we're all good."I opened one of the cabinets and pulled a rectangular container out. "There."
"Thanks."
I sped back to my room to get dressed, putting on a pair of loose jeans, some old band shirt that I've had forever, and a flannel. I grabbed my canvas tote, one of the things Josh got me for Christmas, and dropped my wallet and phone into it.
"You almost ready?" I asked, as he snapped the lid on the container.
"Yeah. Do I smell bad?" He asked, walking up to me and holding his arms out. I stuck my nose near his collar and sniffed.
"You literally always smell good. I don't know how you do it." I lightly laughed, following him out the door with the cookies in his hands.
I called my mom and told her I was on the way, and I pulled out of the apartment complex parking garage.
