[ COLLEGE BASEBALL SPORTS ROMANCE ]
They had heard about one another from everyone, including the internet. She was someone who deserved the absolut...
KELANI PARKER hey, you! don't be a silent reader:)
"Wish me luck" I walk up the black metal stairs and onto the stage.
"Now please welcome Kelani Parker from North Shore University." The announcer said over the PA speaker.
A few people clapped, which im assuming is my family. I look to the right of me and see Coco giving me a thumbs up. I nod at her and send her a thankful smile.
It feels good to know my best friend is watching me, but i'm so nervous at the moment. It feels like I forgot the dance already, but I know I didn't. This is how I get when I first get on stage.
I make sure to spread my legs, just a tiny bit, and face my back to the audience.
Once I see the red light turning on, I know it's go time.
"1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8" I whisper an 8 count.
The music started and everyone and everything disappeared as I felt my body start moving to the music. I tuned out everything and I focused on the music and the choreography, taking each step carefully.
Extending my arms and leg each time and using all my strength and putting into this dance.
I hit my ending pose for a few second as the music came to a stop. I heard loud clapping from around me and I look to see everyone's faces astounded.
Holy shit did I really do that good?
I sassy walk off stage, exactly like Mrs. Kylie showed me.
As soon as I walk down those stairs, I let out a huge breath. I did it. All that work payed off.
"Lani you were amazing out there!" Coco says running up to me and embracing me into a big hug.
She releases and hands me a cold-water bottle that I really need right now because let me tell you, that stage is so hot.
"And now please welcome to the stage Coco Rivera from North Shore University." The same announcer that announced my name says.
"Good luck, you'll do amazing out there." I tell Coco while she's walking up the stairs, she gives me a thumbs up which I return.
"You better go!" She mouths to me, and I know exactly what she's talking about.
I slowly walk away and as soon as I open the double doors, I sprint down the hallway to my dressing room.
I change into my burnt orange and white jump suit, that matches our school colors, and I quickly take off my bright red lipstick and eye shadow.
I brush my hair and put all my shit in my dance bag taking a glance at my watch, "Jesus." I whisper to myself.
As I open the doors, I see my family holding flowers and gifts for me. They walk over to me and compliment me.
I love my family dearly, I really do, but right now i'm in a rush.
"We need to take a picture!" My mom suggests, I look at my watch again and smile and nod at my mom.
I say goodbye to my family and as soon as I turn the corner, I run down the hallway with all my flowers in my hand.
I bump into someone on accident, "I'm so sorry! I'm in a rush right now." I nervously laugh and start walking away.
"Kelani Parker?" A lady's voice I do not recognize says my name.
"Ma'am?" I reply and turn around. I see a young woman that looks like she's in her mid 30's holding a clip board, I can't help but notice the blue and grey star she has on her jacket.
She walks up closer to me, "It's Kelani, right?" She double checks.
"Yes ma'am..." I say slowly, confused on how she knows my name. "I'm sorry I'm kind of in a rush-" I say before she cuts me off.
"I'm Diana, the head coach for the Houston Astros professional dance team." She informs me and hands me her business card. "I saw how you danced on that stage, and I just knew you would be perfect for our team."
I take her business card. Is this legit? "Houston Astros? As in the baseball team?" I ask her. Yes, I know that's a dumb question, but I had to double check.
"The one and only." She says proudly, "I would really love for you to join our team, if you're up for it give me a call." She points at her number on the card, gives me a smile and walks away.
"Mrs. Diana." I say politely, and she turns around. "Is this legit?" I ask her.
She simpered, "Honey, it's legit." She walks away and turns the corner.
I stare at the business card front and back. Now I know what Coco meant by big opportunity, and holy shit this a really a big opportunity.
I fast walk out the doors and into my car, "What the fuck just happened." I mumble, still trying to process that I might be a professional dancer.
I snap out of my thought and focus on where I need to go right now.
North Shore baseball field here I come.
