"We'll Meet Again" - Maverick

You had been dreading this moment for ages. Today you would be graduating from Top Gun. That was something most people were excited about, but not you. The only reason you dreaded it was because of love. You had fallen on love with Maverick. His charms captivated you, along with him being risky.

You were holding a Polaroid of you and Maverick that Goose had taken before you were interrupted by a knock on the door. You quickly put the picture in your bag and went to the door.
"Who is it?" you ask.
"It's me," Maverick says in a tired voice.
He hadn't slept since Goose died. You wouldnt blame him though, Goose was his best friend. The two did everything together. When Goose died it was like a chunk of Maverick's heart went with him.

You open the door, allowing him to come inside your room. "Go ahead and take a seat if you wish," you say to the handsome aviator. He takes a seat on the end of your bed, you go and sit beside him. He sighs..
"I wish this didnt have to end.." he says, turning to you. You put your hand on his thigh.
"I know, Maverick..but it isn't the end, only the beginning," you say to him, attempting to cheer him up. He moves his hand onto yours.
"You know, you can call me Pete, Y/N."
"I know, I just dont think that would be very professional."
"Since when were you professional?"
"Since when did you come to my room at 5 a.m.?"

That causes the pilot to sit there for a moment.
"Because I wanted to talk to you," he says, running his thumb over your calloused knuckles.
"Then talk to me, Pete. No one is stopping you," you look at your hands and he sighs.
"I have fallen for you, Y/N..deeply.."
You look at him, your eyes meeting for once. His dull green eyes captivating your y/e/c ones. You had both zoned out, causing minutes to pass by. The minutes felt like seconds. After a while he takes you by surprise, pulling you into a kiss. You kiss him back, of course, but only for a moment before pulling away.

"God you're dangerous, Maverick."
"I know I am, princess," he smirks.
"Dont call me princess, Pete."
"Why not, Princess?"
"Because you know this isn't going to last," you say as you look away from him. It felt like you had shattered your own heart by saying it but it was true. You would never see him after you graduated. You feel him put his hand on your cheek, moving your head so you were facing him again.
"We'll meet again, Y/N Y/L/N, I know we will." He runs his thumb over your cheekbone. You sit there for a moment, lost on what to say. After a few minutes you stand up.
"Im sorry...I just- i cant do this."

With that you run out of the room, holding back the tears trying to leak from your eyes. You could hear him calling after you but you couldn't look at him. You couldn't go through the pain of knowing you both loved each other but wouldnt see each other ever again.

**30 years later**
You were back at Top Gun. There was a new mission being talked about along with rumors of a new instructor. You wouldve thought Iceman would be the instructor. But, due to him being ill, you knew it wouldnt happen.

There you were, in the same spot you had last seen Maverick. You were clutching onto his dog tags.

—flashback—

"Y/N!" Maverick says as he runs up to you. You look at him with a hurt expression. He was holding his dog tags out to you.
"Take them and give me yours. If we never see each other again then we'll at least have memory of each other." You gave him your dog tags and he put them on, you did the same with his.

—present—
Your memory was interrupted by footsteps and talking. A name said had caught your attention. Maverick. You turn around to see the aviator walking towards you with a few members of the staff.
"Maverick..?" You say a bit too loudly. He stops and looks at you before running to you and picking you up.
"I told you that we'd meet again," he say as he sets you down, smiling.
"Oh shut up and kiss me you idiot." With that request, he immediately pulls you into a kiss. You wish this moment would never end..
