A day passes from the quick events of meeting the first of all the ninja. You spend the next day getting the basic necessities for Lloyd to live with you; clothes that will fit him, a temporary mattress before the frame can finally arrive because "the one that looks like the car of the general of the skeleton army that his father controlled is made overseas"; and basic toiletries. Now as it is nighttime you are putting Lloyd to bed before sleeping. Lloyd lies in his temporary bed thinking about the events of the market trip. 'It wasn't even a full day and they had to fight someone off. What will happen in the future if I stay here?' Lloyd lets the thought of running away play out in his head, the guilt of having you buy all the stuff you did for him caused him to back out of it. But in the end, the want to not put you in any more danger got him to get out from under the covers of his bed and creep out of the room you gave up for him. Sneaking into the kitchen Lloyd takes a couple of the (surprisingly) healthy snacks and stuffed them into his newly washed hoodie. He takes a sticky note off of the fridge that you use to add items to your grocery list and writes a goodbye while holding back tears. Putting on his winter shoes and quietly turning the handle and opening the door, Lloyd takes one last look at your sleeping form on the couch, waves to the cat that's sleeping on top of you, and closes the door behind him.
The moment that the door closes you sit up while holding Genie, being awake the whole time. You're grateful for the extreme amount of coffee you drank in the afternoon. Something told you that Lloyd would pull something like this, maybe it's just past abandonment issues tuition. But anyway, you get up and grab your coat along with one for Lloyd knowing that he's going to practically freeze to death with only his hoodie to keep him warm. You don't spare a glance at the goodbye note and leave the house.
You're a good distance from Lloyd, he's still in your sight but not in hearing range. Feeling the familiarity of the surrounding area you get a pretty good idea of where he's going, the first serpentine tomb. You had been waiting for news of the serpentine being released by someone else due to Lloyd being in your care, but you assume that the Ninjago gods have other plans. Finally, after a few hours, Lloyd arrived at the tomb with you in a distant toe. You watch as he somewhat reenacts the moment that he had found the tomb, but seemingly with a less devious motion. A part of you wants just to grab Lloyd now, but you know that if he doesn't do this you won't be able to prove to him that he is safe with you. The other part of you is stoked about getting to fight in the Slither Pit, you had always found that interesting and fun when you were younger. As Lloyd falls into the tomb, you wait a little bit before jumping in and sliding down the ice in your snow boots in a really cool way 😎. You choose to hide behind a thick pillar of ice so none of the snakes can see you while tying Lloyds winter coat around your waist. Watching the events of the episode play out is kind of surreal, but also quite exciting. So as Lloyd is thrown into the Slither Pit you sneak over and grab a weapon of your own. Just as the general is about to strike Lloyd you jump in. Blocking his hit with the weapon before kicking him away, and let me tell you, that shit hurt. 'I didn't know he hit that hard, ow my poor noodle arms 🥺'
Lloyd stood in shock at your surprising, unknowingly sudden appearance. Watching you kick away the general and save him in the nick of time, he's completely amazed. He was sure that that was the end for him, death by the hands of his own stupidity and a snake. But there you were again saving him from danger.
Watching as their general was sent back into a pillar of ice, ultimately knocked unconscious, the other snakes were at a point of confusion. It had been hundreds of years since they had last seen a human, less one that had beaten or even joined in a Slither Pit fight. So defeating their new general was something that they didn't know how to respond to.
Not knowing how to respond to the sudden stillness of the tomb and not trying to fight any more snakes you take the intimidation route, "IF ANY OF YOU EVER TRY TO HARM THIS CHILD AGAIN" you motion to Lloyd who is now in your arms as you glare and shouts at the hypnobrai snakes "I WILL PERSONALLY DEAL WITH YOU. UNDERSTOOD?" Not knowing what else to do with the unexpected outcome of the past couple of seconds the hypnotic snakes could only nod. "GOOD." With that, you grab Lloyd and book it not waiting for the snakes to come out of their surprised stupor.
"Does this mean that they're our new general?" the Hypnobrai were silent.
After walking in silence back for what seems like forever, you both arrive at Jamanakai. You can feel Lloyds stare, the only interaction that you both have had since you ran from the snakes was you putting his winter coat on him. You were certain that he thought you were mad at him, but you weren't, you understood why he did it to an extent. Fearing one's safety is no joke, especially for someone like Lloyd. Reaching your home you realize and curse yourself for forgetting to lock the door, luckily nothing was stolen and Genie was sleeping. You point at the island seats, Lloyd seems to catch on that you want to talk but seems fearful. It makes your heart clench but you cant break yet. "Lloyd, what the hell were you thinking?" You give him a look of disappointment.
Lloyd has a million thoughts in his head, but none of them was an answer. All that came out of Lloyds mouth was a sobbed "I'm sorry" as tears began to run down his face.
You get up and hug him, "You could've gotten hurt, do you know how worried I was when I woke up and all was there was a note?" this was only partially true. While you were worried, you knew what was going to happen but Lloyd didn't need to know that. What he needed was to know someone was scared for him and cared enough to look for them after disappearing. Your words only made him cry more and hold onto you tighter, "I, I just wanted *hic* to keep you safe, I thought *hic* that if I could get the snakes to follow me like they did my dad I could protect you" which caught you off guard. 'I thought he was worried about himself' you quickly snap out of your stupor and comfort Lloyd, "Lloyd. You are not responsible for my safety, ok?" You rub his back as he continues to sob, "I can take care of myself, you need to only worry about yourself, protecting you is my job ok?" You pull Lloyd to face you as you finish your question. He nods and wipes his tears, "Good. Now, we've had a long night, and I don't think either of us feels like sleeping– so... want to eat some candy and watch that 'Star Fairer' live-action series you spoke about? His eyes light up at that, not only had you promised to protect him but you also were listening to him. He tried to fight back the happy tears but they poured out anyway. You grabbed a tissue box and handed it to him, when he gave you the confirmation that he was ok you grabbed the candy out of one of the higher cabinets.
...
Lloyd had fallen asleep on your shoulder, 'probably tired out from all the crying and scares, poor kid' Lifting him up and moving him to the mattress you had gotten for him. Finishing tucking him in, you move back to the couch. Now that Lloyd was asleep it was time for you to face the music, the song being 'with the first set of the snake-apocalypse starting I need to get me and Lloyd (+Genie) to the monastery faster than I thought' you look at Genie as a plan formulates in your head. 'Alright it's settled, in the morning I'll try to wish me and Lloyd to the monastery'. With your final thought, you crash, with only running on caffeine for the entire day, and now practically all night, you need sleep. Which you do while cuddling Genie.
Sensei Wu awakens from his sleep, 'Ah, it seems we'll have a guest soon'.
