Chapter 2

Xavier's pov

I wake up to the sound of my alarm going off at 4:00

I turn it off before heading to the shower

I get out and put on my jogging shorts and muscle shirt before heading outside

I get out there and love the summer wind blow

It's still dark as I start my 4 mile long jog

I have music blaring in my ears as I start off

I watch the trees blur by me as I continue a steady pace

I get back to the house at 6 and find my dad outside sitting in a chair

I nod at him keeping my head down looking at the ground

"Sit" he commands

I take a seat across from him and he stares at me

"Son, as you know I'm getting quite old" he says looking into my eyes

I nod slightly waiting for him to continue

"I was thinking since you're birthday is coming up that maybe it's time I step down. You have 3 years to learn your responsibilities. Until then, this will stay between us" he says standing and walking back into the house

I sit there stunned with excitement building inside me

I decide to calm my nerves by playing video games with kyle

"Kyle" I say walking in the house "call of duty. Stat" I say laughing

He nods happily and sets it up quickly

I have a million thoughts racing through my mind about being alpha

We play for about three hours straight until someone calls out that foods ready

Everyone gets their plates and piles food on them

I go outside and sit on one of the chairs and eat everything cooked

Kyle sits beside me with this uneasy look on his face

"You alright man?" I ask him

"I gotta talk to you later. Along and away from everyone" he says in a quiet voice

I nod and continue eating

My dad comes out of the house and everyone gets quite

"Everyone. As you know my son is turning 16 tomorrow. He will find his mate in one of the many packs we have coming. If you happen to find your own mate you come to me and let me know. Other than that everyone please be nice to everyone and be on your best behavior. Thank you" he says walking over beside his beta

Everyone continues what they are doing and I get this feeling in my stomach

"Come on" kyle says throwing his plate away

I nod and walk over to my dad

"Kyle and I are going for a run. We'll be back soon" I say walking into the woods with kyle

"Alright what's going on?" I ask him sitting on a fallen tree

"My dad came up to me yesterday. He told me in three years he's stepping down from his position. He said its gonna be mine. Did your dad say anything to you?" He asks sitting across from me

"Yeah he said I have three years to become the alpha he is" I say "which means you're gonna be my beta"

"Hell yes!" He yells punching my arm

I laugh and then get semi serious

"He wants me to be this heartless guy. He wants me to be some cold hearted guy that shows no emotion" I say shaking my head "how do I do that?"

"Just be like your dad. I mean Yall are basically twins as it is" he says

"I guess you're right" I say running a hand through my hair "but this entire pack? That's gonna be hard"

"You're right man it will be hard. But with the help of your awesome beta it's gonna be pretty dang easy"he says smirking

"Idiot" I say shoving him off the tree

He laughs and shoves me back before
we turn and go back to the house

I get there and everyone is cleaning up the mess

My mom walks up to me and smiled at me

"Your father told me the news" she sad giving me a reassuring smile

I kinda nod back and go inside

I jog up the stairs to my room and look at the clock

"Twelve more hours and I'll be 16" I say to myself

Most of the packs are coming in tonight so we have to be prepared for everyone

I quickly take a shower and then get out drying my hair with the towel

I put on my jeans and a white button up shirt that my mom laid out for me to wear tonight

I walk downstairs and see a bunch of new faces

I see my father talking to some of the newbies so I decide to walk over there

"Ahhhh here he is. Alpha Alex this is my son Xavier" my dad says

We shake heads and nod at each other

"Happy birthday son. If you happen to find your mate in my pack I will be pleased" he says bowing

I nod back and walk over to my mother and see who she's talking to

"Xavier, this is the Luna of alpha Alex, Luna Clara" mother says introducing us

I bow my head toward her as she does to me

"Thank you for coming" my mother says smiling at her

"No problem! When I found out Xavier was going to find his mate I had to come!" She says smiling

My mom smiles back as I go and mingle with everyone else

I check my phone and see it reads 9:56

'Two hours and four minutes' I think in my head

I go over to kyle and find him talking to a group of girls

I smirk and walk over there beside him

"Hey man" I say doing our handshake "and hello girls"

"Hello mr. Xavier" one says bowing "im Britney. This is Katelynn, Chole, Stephanie, and Mattie"

She points to each of the girls as I smile and nod at them

"Well ladies it was nice meeting you all. Now I have to go find my father" I say walking away to find my father

I notice he is outside by the edge of the woods

"Dad?" I ask standing beside him

"Oh hey son" he says wiping his eye "didn't notice you there"

"Are you okay?" I ask slowly

"Yeah son I am. It's nothing. I'm just worried about you finding the right one"

"Dad I know she's in the lack house right now. Don't stress it. everything's going to workout" I say placing my hand on his shoulder and shaking it

"I know son. I know" he says hugging me

I hug him and walk with him back to the pack house
