Jughead and I skipped school another day. My mom wasn't going to notice. Jughead and I needed to get into Thornhill without anyone noticing. Jughead stood watch and promised to call me if he saw anything. I was able to pick the lock to the mansion's double doors. When I opened the doors, all I smelt were cigarettes and wine. I made my way upstairs and I got a chill down my spine. I'm curious how Cheryl survived 16 years here?
I finally found Cheryl's room. It had been cleaned and the room smelt like a hospital. I looked in drawers and on shelves. Nothing. I called Jughead to tell him the news.
"Juggie, I can't find anything."
"What?! There has to be something?!"
"Well I've looked everywhere and I can't find crap."
"Well...don't try to find things like Betty...Try to find things like Cheryl. Know where she would try to hide things."
"Will do. Talk to you later." I said hanging up.
I started to think about where Cheryl would hide things. I shook her silver hand mirror. Nothing. I went over to her books to see if she was hiding anything. Nope. I was getting ready to give up hope. Then I saw an air vent on her wall. I knelled down to the side of it and grabbed my screwdriver. I undid all 4 screws. I found a large wooden box. I was getting ready to open it until I got a call from Jug.
"Penelope is home! Cheryl's mom is home! Betty you need to get out of that house!"
"I can't! If I jump I'll land on concrete! I can't do anything right now!"
"I'm going to the backyard. Stay still and do whatever you need to do!" He said panicked. I went to the door and slowly shut it. I saw Jughead waving at me from the backyard. I quickly put the wooden box in my backpack and threw it to Jughead. He caught it and set it by his feet.
"Betty...you need to jump!"
"What? Are you crazy?!" I cried.
"Come on...we don't have much time. I'll catch you! I promise!"It was stupid for sure. But it was either be arrested and explain to our parents or jump and take a risk. I jumped backwards with my arms out and I didn't face pant the ground. I looked at the sky and thought about the pain I would be in. But then Jughead caught me. He put me down and he grabbed my backpack. We ran all the way out of Thornhill and to Pops. We tried to catch our breath. I began to laugh. It was a small laugh, but a loud-fun laugh.
"Why-a-are you lau-laughing?" Jughead panted with a small giggle. He began to laugh too and then we High-Fived. We ate lunch and then headed to school. We wouldn't want to be late the whole day!
