Back to School

Winter break has ended and Polly was leaving in 3 days. She kept bugging me about going with her to California. I said no, but she kept saying stuff about it. The next morning while I was getting ready, she tried one last time.

"The school offers a writing program for teens. You could have a chance of a scholarship." She said. That got me thinking. I wouldn't have to make mom be so stressed anymore! But then I would have to leave Veronica, Kevin, and Jughead. I couldn't leave, even if I wanted to.

"I'm sorry, Polls. I can't leave Riverdale, not yet."

"Oh well, I tried."

I walked outside my house and Archie ran up to me.

"Hey Betty."

"Hey Arch." I said awkwardly.

"I want to talk with you about Veronica."

"You guys have been broken up for 3 months now, let her go!" I yelled. I began to walk on to school but Archie walked with me.

"Has she seen anyone new?"

"She went out with Fangs Fogarty for a little while, but they broke up about a week ago. She's now trying a relationship with Sweetpea. Why don't you try a relationship?"

"Will you go out with me, Betty?"

"No! Veronica is my best friend, I couldn't do that. I recommend someone else...What about Josie McCoy?"

"Nah, I heard she has a things with Reggie Mantle." Archie sighed. He was as hopeless as my social life.

"What about...Valerie Brown?" He shrugged. I nodded and gave him a thumbs up. He smiled and handed me an envelope.

"What's this?" I asked and smiled.

"My dad wanted me to give this to you. I think it's a thank you card or something." He laughed. I laughed too and put the card in my backpack.

"Are you and Jughead still friends. How good of friends?"

"Best friends, Arch. I know what you're thinking, but we're just friends."

"Then why did I see you guys kissing in your room the other day?"

"My gosh! Are you spying on me? You...Weirdo!" I said in shock.

"I'm Jesus, I can see all." Archie smiled. I walked faster and tried to avoid him.

After school, I ran to the Blue and Gold room. I shut the door. Jughead was sitting in the spinning-chair. He looked at me confused and I leaned against the desk.

"Archie knows, Jug. Archie knows about us."

"That's great. 4 people know about us, 1 person is dead that knew about us, 1 person is in jail that also knew about us, and 1 person we're hiding our relationship from. Our relationship is toxic." He sighed. He stood up and leaned against the desk next to me.

"Jug, don't say that."

"It's true! I'm pathetic liar! I'm a horrible person! And an even worse friend! I lie to my best friend, I fell in love with his sister! I don't do good!"

"Ok! But listen, our relationship isn't about sneaking around and keeping secrets. It's about two people who are in love, but nobody like that. Like...Romeo and Juliet, but we're gonna live happily ever after instead." I said giving a weak smile. I felt the tears run down my face and he sighed.

"Alright baby, I'm sorry. Come here." He sighed reaching for me. We hugged for a while and I cried.

"It's not true, Betts. Our relationship is...romantic."

"You're the worst liar ever."

"It's not too late to end us. You can break up with me." He whispered.

"No. I wouldn't trade us for anything." I cried. I tried to cover up my tears, but they always come back. When you love someone so much, but it's hard being in a world where you'd hurt the people around you. But it doesn't matter.

Chic could take away everything from me. My diary, my friends, even Jughead. But the love that's connected between Jug and I, will be there forever. Nobody and nothing can take away that feeling.
