aang didn't expect to save a child that day. he merely wanted to go for a flight to clear his head after coming back to zuko's beach house on ember island the day before.

aang had flown mindlessly on his glider, simply enjoying the warm breeze pushing against his face and ruffling his clothes. he flipped and turned, messed with the air currents so that he would fall a little and then come back up.

it was a peaceful flight until aang heard a scream. his eyes shot open as he searched the ground, soon spotting a supposedly wild mongoose lizard facing a crying child with h/c (a/n: h/c means hair color) hair, who seemed no older than 5.

aang immediately dove into action, swooping down, as he watched the snarling lizard advance towards the kid, making him wail more.

once he got close enough, aang stretched out an arm, the blue arrow on his hand pointing directly in the direction of the lizard, and swooped up the kid, forcing his other arm's muscles to strain at the added weight.

aang pulled the kid up to his chest, his biceps flexing from the effort. he grunted as he shuffled the kid around until his forearm was around the kid's stomach, who was now giggling joyfully, a stark contrast from when he was wailing earlier.

now, being in the sky, aang felt calm and strangely comfortable with the joyful child in his arm. he found himself smiling at the kid's laughter, and his heart melted when the kid looked back up at him with the most adorable smile.

aang flew around for a bit, preforming fun tricks with his glider, keeping the boy safe and secure while prying out smiles and joyful laughter from the him .

but soon, aang was shook out of his peace with a voice yelling "yuka!". the boy in his arms immediately sobered up from his giggles, his head snapping up, and his eyes widening as he responded with, "mama!"

noticing the kid's reaction, aang began to track where the voice came from, and once he found it, he flew towards the voice as he approached a group of houses with a small group of people yelling out the same name, "yuka".

the boy, whose name appeared to be yuka, giggled as they descended, causing a young woman to look up, her lovely eyes shining with tears at the sight of them.

she had h/l (a/n: hair length) strands of h/c hair and shining e/c (a/n: eye color) eyes. her s/c (a/n: skin color) skin was streaked with tears running down her beautiful face. aang couldn't seem to keep his eyes off her.

he knelt down, letting the kid run to the woman, yelling "mama!". the woman fell to her knees, tears running down her face as she opened her arms for the boy to run into.

aang watched as the woman kissed the child, hugging him for so long the he fell asleep in her arms. she sighed in relief and aang could see her tense face relax.

wiping her tears, she stood, with the boy in her arms. she bowed to him, as far as she could without dropping the child in her arms and said, "thank you avatar, i owe you a debt of my life." with a rough voice, presumably from searching for the boy earlier.

"oh, no! it's fine, you don't owe me anything!" the woman looked up to meet his eyes, and aang gave her a smile. "it's just what i do."

she stood up straight, wiping her tears and gently holding the sleeping child in her arms. "well, at least let me offer you something. dinner perhaps?"

as much as aang wanted to eat dinner with a pretty lady, he had already eaten dinner after arriving at ember island, and he probably needed to get back to the beach house soon, so he was forced to decline.

the lady paused, her eyebrows furrowing as she attempted to find out what to get him, and aang took the time to admire how cute she looked as she thought.

then her head snapped up, startling aang as she told him to stay there. she ran as fast as she could while carrying her kid to a house he assumed was hers. soon she came back, without the child, but instead with slips of paper in her hands.

when she finally faced aang, she put the papers in his hand, slightly out of breath. aang looked down to see 5 slips of paper, each one admitting one person into the ember island theater. he spaced out, grimacing at the thought of the horrible play he saw there last and some...moments he had shared with katara there.

"it's tickets for a show i'm in." aang looked up to meet the lady's eyes. "it's tomorrow evening, 6 flashes of the candle (a/n that is, again, 6 pm). it's, um, about the cave of two lovers." aang looked back at the slips, trying to push back the thoughts running through his mind about his travels there with katara.

"it's not much, compared to what you've done for me, but i hope that you'll take it." the woman's sweet voice broke aang out of his trance, and he looked up to meet the lady's hopeful eyes, which brought a smile to his face and a fluttery feeling in his heart that he hadn't felt in a long time.

"thank you. i'll try to be there." aang says, still smiling. he bows to the lady, and she bows back as he opens his glider. he takes off, and for the entire flight home, he couldn't stop himself from smiling.
