the overwhelming chaos of a show day was what you lived for.
the rush of excitement and nervousness coursing through your body as you start your normal routine in the morning.
the adrenaline pumping in your veins as you nearly are late to drop yuka off at preschool because you had to finish up the mochi you made for the cast and crew.
the relief washing over you when you send yuka off to run into the school building just in time for the teacher to call for attendance.
the soothing feeling of healing water clearing your throat and relaxing your tense muscles as you start to practice for the show.
the smiles on everyone's faces when you present them all with your mochi.
the costume fitters and the makeup artists sweeping you away into your cast room so they can start their work on you.
the aching feeling of sitting in a chair for too long as they powder and draw on your face and fix up little mistakes on your dress.
the confidence and satisfaction that fills your body when they finish your full costume, making you feel like you were the most beautiful person in the world.
the vocal warmups you start to do as you start to adjust yourself to your character, embodying their personality.
the slight panic you feel as the people start filling in the seats, worrying about forgetting your lines.
this panic would stay with you until you stepped on that stage, the bright spotlight warm on your skin, prompting little sweat beads to form on your face.
it was the same every time, and you loved it.
but when you caught sight of a certain man in the crowd with blue arrow tattoos connecting all his body parts, your anxiety slipped away.
your heartbeat sped up like it normally would, but this time it wasn't from nerves. heat rushed to your face, but you weren't yet under the warm spotlight.
he must've sensed someone was looking at him, as he turned in your direction, locking your eyes. you jolted and slipped the hand that was peeking open the curtains up to your heated face.
spirits, you couldn't be feeling this way. not before your show. not ever, actually! you stepped away from the curtain, taking a few deep breaths to calm your pounding heart down.
the director clapped, successfully clearing your mind of any distractions that were occupying your mind.
"okay, everyone, listen up." your director boomed. you walked over to the little semi-circle that was forming in front of him, stopping next to your co-star, roku. you turned and met eyes with roku, giving him a small smile and wave. he smiled back, nodding at you in return. "we need everyone to do their best today. i've just received news that not only is the firelord joining our audience," he paused for the small gasps received from the first news, and for dramatic effect. "so is his close friend, the avatar."
this news made the cast gasp and start to whisper in shock, but you just widened your eyes and pursed your lips.
spirits, how dumb could you get? obviously, you knew that the avatar was joining, but you'd completely forgotten when you'd given him the extra tickets that he would probably give one each to his whole team. and that the firelord himself was on that team. you internally cursed yourself out.
"so i expect this to be the best show i've seen in my entire career." the director continued, his eyes threatening. "do you understand?"
there were scattered murmurs of "yes" and "yes, sir"s. this seemed to be enough for your director, cause his face broke out into a big smile.
"great! we go on in ten!" he sang, turning and walking away. the cast and crew burst into action, adding more last-minute touches to anything to make it look perfect. you just stood there in semi-shock.
"damn, that's tough news to swallow." roku said, turning to look at you. "aren't you excited though? the firelord and avatar are coming to watch our small little show. wait, you think the sibling southern pole-ers will be here?" he asked you, his eyes shining with excitement.
you chuckled at him. "no doubt, they're all really good friends. now stop drooling over them and start preparing!" roku shot you a playful glare, which you returned with a stubborn look.
"okay, not my fault they're both so attractive." he rolled his eyes at you before sending you a fond look. "see you on the stage, y/n."
"see you on the stage," you parroted, watching as he turned from you and scurried back to his cast room. you smiled in his direction before going back to your own room to heal yourself again with water.
for some reason, you felt a bit more excited to start this particular show.
it could have been that you hadn't been able to land a lead role in a long time.
or it could have been a certain tattooed man sitting out there in the crowd.
who knows?
