for some reason, aang felt nervous as he sat down on a velvet chair in front of the wide stage.

the theater was bustling with people, an oddly comforting feeling.

his friends sat down next to him, buzzing with excitement. katara went off to toph about how excited she was for the show, and toph just nodded along, a poker face making up her expression.

vendors with little snacks placed on the trays hanging from their necks walked around with the exotic treats, promoting their food everywhere they went.

the man in red next to aang perked up when one with fire gummies walked by. "hey, i'm going to go get some snacks," zuko told aang, standing. his eyes were glued to the vendor now walking out of the theater. "want anything?"

aang frowned at this and stood up. "zuko, you're the firelord!" the said man turned to aang and cocked his eyebrow up at what he said as if saying, "yes, i do know that". aang just glared at him. "if you go get the snacks it'll bring too much attention. stay here, i'll go get it."

the firelord sighed, rolling his eyes. "what, you think people seeing the avatar would be any better? stay here, i'll get you something sweet." he patted aang's shoulder before heading out of the theater. the sight of him brought gasps and people bowed when they caught sight of him. zuko didn't seem to notice - he was too busy chasing after the fire gummy vendor to care.

aang stood at his seat, overwhelming chaos flooding his senses. not enough to make him feel super uncomfortable, but just enough to make him cringe and want to leave for a bit.

despite this feeling, a strange tingle went up aang's spine, like he was being watched. it wasn't unusual, as he was the avatar, and it wasn't creepy either. he just felt a need to catch the culprit.

aang looked around, left and right, scanning each person's face. of course, he found some people looking at him, but that tingling sensation never went away.

finally, as he began to give up, he sat down halfway, facing the stage, when he saw a pair of e/c eyes looking back at him. you peeked through the curtain, lost in a trance as aang locked eyes with you. it didn't look quite like you zoned out, but it seemed like you couldn't look away.

the feeling burst into his body, spreading until all his limbs tingled. his face slightly heated up with every second he got lost in your eyes.

after a while, aang straightened his posture - prepared to give you a wave or to mouth a hello - but as soon as he did, you snapped out of your trance and the curtain fell back to its normal spot.

aang frowned at this, tilting his head as if he could possibly look past the curtain and meet your eyes once more. he had no such luck.

instead, zuko came back, his arms full of fire nation treats. he went up close to the avatar and pointed out a single finger before using his whole body to tap the man.

aang spun around to meet his eyes, flushed and embarrassed. this made zuko prop up an eyebrow.

"what're you doing?" he asked suspiciously, shifting a few snacks into aang's arms while still keeping eye contact. "the show's bound to start soon, sit."

it was true. the lanterns began to dim as the firebenders on the sides used their abilities to slowly distinguish most of the flames. the orchestra began to set themselves up in front of the stage, all prepared to start their symphony.

letting out a small "oh" aang sat down in his seat, examining the treats zuko bought. there were packets of bread and cookies and a couple of fruit tarts. but what really stuck out to aang was the packet of a singular mochi, with a picture on the side of the wrapper that looked like a familiar child.

"where'd you get this from?" aang asked his friend, who was munching on firecrackers and fire gummies. zuko peered his head to look at what was in his friend's hand.

"oh, that? i don't know, some crew member offered it to me, saying this lady in their cast made it." zuko shrugged. "why'd you ask?"

"not sure. i'm sure i'll think of it soon..." aang trailed off, finally recognizing the little child in the picture. it was that kid he saved! the one with the pretty mom!

aang huffed in disbelief, a smile spreading across his face as he held the mochi out to examine it once more, like a connoisseur examining a piece of fine art.

"what are you doing?" katara whispered in aang's ear, making him startle. their faces were left close together, and aang could almost feel her breath on his skin. aang turned his head and put his arm down, resting the mochi in his lap. katara sighed slightly, disappointed. "the show's about to start." she said, nodding toward the stage.

the orchestra started to play a familiar tune. it was one the team (minus zuko and toph) heard long ago, at the cave of two lovers.

katara turned to beam at aang, but he was too focused on the cast - more specifically the lead - entering the stage.

spirits, you looked beautiful.

in a traditional earth nation dress that had long, flowing sleeves and a skirt that fell to your feet. you wore a green vest at the top, embroidered gold stitches in ornate patterns everywhere. there were other colors too, like pink and blue stitched into swirls and waves at the bottom of your skirt.

as you and another man dressed in a green traditional outfit positioned yourself in the front middle of the stage the orchestra built up the music to the first verse.

he expected a singer from where the orchestra was to start filling the air with their music, but instead, you opened your mouth and began to sing the song with the male next to you.

your heavenly voice harmonized with the man's voice filled the theater and aang slowly felt his former memories of the same song being replaced by memories of you.

as the show went on and eventually finished, all aang's thoughts were of you.
