It was around mid-afternoon when Adonis and Y/n arrived back at the palace after an uncomfortable journey. Y/n tried to speak up multiple times to explain herself further to Adonis but he seemed more interested in the views out of the windows than what she had to say.

Y/n felt rather apologetic towards Adonis, after all, she did lie to him and left out a lot of detail about her identity. She tried to reassure herself that it was a necessary thing to do to protect herself. If only she told Adonis the whole truth then perhaps he would understand the difficult plight she was in.

Adonis helped her down from the carriage, avoiding eye contact with Y/n and letting go of her hand rather quickly as soon as her feet touched the floor. Y/n muttered a quick thank you to which he mumbled an almost inaudible reply. She had to say something to Adonis before they would part ways and Y/n wanted to at least rinse out the tension between them.

"Adonis I-" she was abruptly cut off by two soldiers who called out Adonis' name. They seemed to be in a rush and had a look of seriousness etched onto their faces.

"Prince Adonis," the first soldier addressed. "May we ask where you have just arrived back from?"

"I was out escorting this young lady," he explained to them.

"May I ask who this lady is?" The second soldier turned to face her and furrowed his eyebrow as he did not recognise Y/n. "I don't seem to recognise you."

Y/n nervously glanced at Adonis who stood next to her. She was becoming a bit worried about the soldier's presence and was unsure as to how to answer them. They didn't appear to be the type of people who would be content with an answer of her being a lady's maid, especially one that had spent time with the third prince of the kingdom.

"You don't need to worry about this lady. I just told you she was with me. I know her and she poses no risk to my wellbeing or the palace if that is what you are thinking," Adonis assured them with a smile. Y/n silently thanked Adonis for answering on her behalf.

"Ah, it's just that we are looking for someone. A lady with h/l h/c hair and e/c eyes. This lady has the same colour eyes and roughly the same height but her hair colour is different from what we have been told," the first soldier explained.

Y/n tensed up upon hearing that soldiers were undoubtedly looking for her unless it was another lady that coincidentally had similar features to her. Though, she matched the description even though she was still wearing the wig that Adonis had supplied her earlier on. A myriad of reasons as to why the soldiers were looking for her ran through her head.

Had the duke found her and sent out a note to the palace to find her? That couldn't be possible though as a message to the palace wouldn't reach them so quickly if the duke recognised that it was Y/n at the festival.

"Why are you looking for this lady?" Adonis questioned.

"It was an order sent out by the first prince Andrias. We were told that if we found a young lady matching the description we should bring her to him," the second soldier responded.

Y/n's heart sank as a heavy feeling formed in her stomach. She kept herself composed in front of the soldiers to give herself away but she felt her heartbeats increase exponentially and her head becoming light. Andrias was supposed to be away for the whole day, that was what he told her but now he was back and found that Y/n was gone. Y/n could only imagine the outburst he must have thrown after arriving at her room and seeing it was uninhibited.

"I see, if I see a lady matching the description I'll be sure to let someone know," Adonis replied in a calm tone. The soldiers walked away, continuing their search as Adonis snapped his head towards Y/n. Y/n looked up at him with wide eyes. "It seems like you've been caught, princess," he teased her. Y/n was annoyed as this was not the time to be teasing her.
