07 | Checkmate

Minji ran through the streets while desperately trying to remember where the boy's place was located.
Her memory wasn't one of her strengths which made things difficult as she was already running late, not that it concerned her.
She stopped to take a look around her as she felt she had lost her way again.
The area felt deserted making her shiver as only the distant sounds of the city behind her broke the uncomfortable silence of the street.

Suddenly someone grabbed her arm before dragging her forward, making her stumble over her own feet.
She quickly ripped her hand off the person's grip before they turned around as she scoffed at the familiar face.

"Have you got any manners?"

Jungwon stared back at the girl with a blank expression before grabbing her wrist to lead her towards a building in the distance.

"These streets aren't safe, you shouldn't wander here alone. That's why I came to look for you"

Minji rolled her eyes before breaking free from the boy's grip as she eyed around the deserted street.
She stared at an abandoned building across the street, trying to see inside through the windows to find any sign of life.
She quickly flinched as she noticed movement in one of the windows, causing her to run closer to the boy for comfort.

They entered the buiding as the girl stepped into the familiar room before eyeing the weapon decorated walls.
The boy whistled to get her attention before leading her further to a room in the back.
She followed behind the boy before her eyes grew wide at the sight of the spacious room with a large fighting mat in the center.
She walked past the numerous punching bags hanging from the ceiling as she eyed the worn state of them.
She wasn't looking to end up like one of the punching bags...

Minji gulped as she felt the nervousness growing inside her.
She wasn't good at physichal fighting and in that moment she wished she hadn't lied to the boy about it.
Jungwon eyed the nervous girl as a smirk grew on his lips.
He knew the girl had lied about her fighting skills and he wasn't planning to go easy on her.

"You seem rather nervous. I thought you knew how to fight?"

Jungwon asked while smirking at the fidgeting girl before she lifted her head up at the boy's words, shaking away the nervousness.

"I guess there's only one way to find out"

Minji feigned a courageous smile before walking on the fighting mat to face the boy.
He chuckled at the girl's sudden change as he began stretching his body to prepare himself for the upcoming fight he thought to be an easy win.

"Okay! Show me what you've got"

Jungwon exclaimed as he gestured the girl to attack him first.
Minji hesitated while approaching the boy slowly before charging at him with all her strength, throwing punches at him swiftly as each one flew past him.
The girl grew frustrated as the boy managed to dodge all of her attempts as she tried hitting different areas at a quicker pace while the boy only moved past every punch she threw his way.
Suddenly the boy grabbed the arm she had tried hitting him with before holding her upper body in a tight grip as she tried to break free without succes.

"You're focusing too much on the punches. Use your whole body"

Jungwon instructed before letting the girl go as she returned to her spot on the other side of the mat.
This time it was her turn to gesture the boy to attack her, earning a slight smirk from him before he began making his way towards the girl.

He threw the first punch towards her head before she quickly dodged it.
She smirked proudly while waiting for the boy's next attack.
She didn't have time to react as the boy moved around skillfully while she kept trying to throw punches at him.
Suddenly the boy hit her while this time she was too slow to react as the punch landed straight on her jaw causing her head to fly to the side as she grit her teeth at the sudden pain.
The feeling hit her as she charged back at the boy, using his earlier guiding as she moved around to lay punches at different areas of his body.
He managed to dodge most of the girl's attempts before she suddenly hit his stomach causing him to gasp for air before another punch flew at his nose.

"You know, you really suck at this"

Minji laughed while staring at the panting boy as he was staring back at her with a piercing gaze while feeling the blood dripping from his nose.
He wiped the blood away with his sleeve before slightly smirking at the girl while taking steps closer towards her.
Minji took steps back as she felt intimated by the boy's vengeful gaze.
Suddenly he grabbed her arms to hold her in a grip before using his feet to make her fall as she hit the floor with force.

"No. You just caught me off guard for a moment"

Jungwon said while kneeling before the girl as he eyed her with a smug smile.
Minji gritted her teeth at the boy's words as she watched him getting up to walk away.
She sat up before suddenly grabbing him by his feet, causing him to lose his balance as he hit the floor .
She held him down with all her strength while staring into his eyes as she was hovering over him.
He stared back at her with widened eyes while being unable to move due to the girl's unexpected move.
She inched her face closer to his while his heart beat faster by the second.

"Checkmate"

Minji whispered before a proud smirk grew on her lips as she stared at the boy's shocked expression.
She chuckled amusedly before getting up to head out of the room.

Jungwon watched the girl walking away with his heart pounding loudly in his ears as he felt the blood rushing to his cheeks.
His body ached after the girl's rough punches but something was distracting him from the pain.
He brought a hand to ruffle his hair while staring at the floor.
He chuckled at the thought of the girl, not trying to stop the smile forming on his lips.

He was impressed by the girl.
He admired her efforts and her endearing personality which brought great joy into his dull life.
He was invested in training her, even if a portion of it was just to get a reason to see her everyday.
