Chapter 9: Tough Choice

Eltan Storm

"Hey, Eltan, what's up?" asked my eldest sister-in-law, Alena.

"Hey, Xian. Oh, my God, he has grown up so much!" I gushed over the little baby boy in her lap.

Alena shot me a flat look through the laptop screen. "You could at least acknowledge his mother," she muttered.

"What's to acknowledge about you, Big Sis? You're as pretty as ever, but Xian has grown up," I reasoned, my hands itching to hold my nephew in my arms. But they were now temporarily staying in New York as Elian was expanding our business there.

"Sure, sure. What do you want? I'm busy."

"Busy doing what exactly? It's the weekend."

Alena rolled her eyes. "I'm a mother and a wife, Eltan. I'm always busy."

"Sure, that's why Big Bro is surfing Netflix for a movie to watch with you guys." I could see the black and red reflection of the Netflix display on the cup Alena was drinking from.

I heard Elian laugh and say, "Busted."

I watched as Alena threw a cushion at her husband from the couch, then she straightened herself up and asked, "So what do you want?"

"Um, I want some help—"

"Regarding a girl?" Alena's face lit up.

"How did you know?" I asked in shock.

"I just know." She raised up her top's collar in pride. "Anyway, tell me about the girl!" she asked, and seeing her excitement, Xian clapped his hands while giggling.

I slapped my palm over my face. I knew this was coming. I summoned this on myself from the moment I pressed the video call icon. I could have called my other sister-in-law, but she talked a mile per second and would definitely suggest something crazy, so I decided to contact Alena who had no connection to Faith and I would get to see my cute nephew too.

Nevertheless, I was willing to put up with Alena's questions as long as she was able to tell me a good enough gift for Faith. It was Faith's birthday the day after tomorrow, and I wanted to celebrate it with her. I also wanted to give her a nice gift, but I had no idea what.

So I begrudgingly told Alena all about Faith, which included Elian and Xian as well, but Elian didn't pry much into my love life and their two-year-old son could barely understand.

"She sounds so sweet. I want to meet her!" Alena exclaimed.

"Please for God's sake, don't do what you did with Crazy Sis," I requested. I heard what she did when she heard of Ember from Lance—she went to her house and the two of them roasted my poor brother together—I didn't want that for Faith. Not yet, at least. "She will freak out, and I'm not kidding."

"C'mon, everyone loves me. No one will freak out—"

"Will you please just promise me you won't try to meet her until I give you permission to?"

Alena pretended to think hard, so Elian jumped in, "She promises she won't."

"Hey, you can't do that—" she tried to object.

"I can. I have been waiting for half an hour now for you to finish this call. So will you just hurry up and tell him about the gift?" Elian said, sounding annoyed.

Alena huffed and turned back to me. "Fine. Tell me some of your ideas first."

"I don't know. Necklace, bracelet, earrings, purse—"
