Chapter 38: Two Sides Of A Coin

Eltan Storm

"I'm so sorry for being careless, Big Bro. You can hit me if you want," I sincerely said, closing my eyes and waiting for Elian to hit me.

But instead, I was wrapped in a tight hug. "Thank you for finding him," was what he said, contrary to what I expected of him.

"But it really was my fault—"

"It doesn't matter. You returned Xian back to us safely. You did your job well," he said, and I became quiet.

I watched Xian who was hugging his mom and crying. It was obviously a little too much for such a young kid.

Mutiny was standing in the corner, distancing herself from my family.

But after pulling away from the hug, Elian approached her. He smiled at her and thanked her sincerely for doing what she did.

Even I had to admit, she was a hero back there.

The way she led the team was amazing. She really had a knack for being a gang leader. The fact she did all of that for my sake was even more amazing. Because she didn't want me to worry. I knew she couldn't care less about anyone other than me, after all.

"Thank you for looking after Xian the entire day," Alena said. "It would be nice if you guys could just live around here. Everything would be easier that way."

She was right. If I lived in New York, no one would even dare to lay a finger on Xian.

But the main business was back in California and Nevada.

"You can give it some thought. You can control everything from here as well. Plus, you really liked that new location for Berserkers, didn't you?" Elian added.

Faith and I went to see it two days ago, and it was quite appealing. The location was good for attracting customers as well.

"I will think about it," I replied.

To be honest, I wouldn't even think about it because moving here would be troublesome. Only if the best psychologist for Faith didn't live in NYC.

After Elian, Alena, and Xian left, I looked at Mutiny.

"Can I talk to you for some time?"

"What is it?" she asked a little coldly.

"Why haven't you been appearing that much? Wasn't your trigger at midnight?" I inquired.

She stayed quiet, gritting her teeth.

"What's wrong with you? Tell me," I urged, approaching her. "Why are you quiet now? Why don't you run your mouth like you always do?" I backed her against the wall.

"Geez, why are you bothering me? Why don't you ask me to bring out Faith like you always do? Isn't it better for you if I just don't appear?" she burst out.

"What are you talking about—"

"Stop it! I know that you don't like me. No matter what I do, you just never see me. Heck, you probably don't even see me as a woman. Even if I dress up scandalously, you never check me out. You never try to take advantage even when I want you to. I don't exist in your eyes, I am aware of that!"

I had no idea she felt like this. But I guess even someone like Mutiny got her feelings hurt over small things.

"But what can I do if I still exist? I can't just erase myself now, can I? I'm still real!" Angry tears slipped out of her eyes as she blabbered half-baked sentences, "I can't even kill myself because that would mean killing Faith as well, and I know very well that it would hurt you and you would become alone again. I don't want to hurt you, but I don't know what to do. I love you, but I can't have you—" Her words were cut off by my lips pressing on hers.

"There is it—the Mutiny I know, the one who always runs her mouth nonstop," I whispered against her lips. "But right now, shut up and let me kiss you."

"But why..."

"Because I love you."

"Huh?"

"You say I don't notice you. Are you crazy?" I rebuked her lightly. "You have been occupying my mind ever since you first showed up in my life. I don't look at your scandalous clothes because I don't want to lose control of myself, which means, of course, I see you as a woman. Sure, a crazy woman. But still, as a woman."

"What about Faith?"

"Of course, I love her as well. Both of you are the same person, after all. You are the two sides of the same coin. How can I ignore one side and just happily get along with another side? I have to love both, no?"

Tears brimmed her eyes. "You should talk to Faith about it."

"Didn't you hear? I already did. She gave me the green light to go ahead with you."

"What? When?"

"Right after we rescued Xian. Just as I got him out of the carton, he saw you and hugged you. That's when Faith switched with you and hugged him back, soothing him. I talked to her about it when Xian fell asleep in the car."

"Wow... it just... it all feels so unbelievable." She buried her face in her palms, crying. "I feel like everything I have ever wanted is coming true."

"You mustn't have wanted a lot from life then," I joked.

"I didn't." She clutched the collar of my shirt. "Revenge and you are all I have ever wanted, and now, I have both. It feels too good to be true."

I smiled and brushed a few locks from her face. "But it's still true, though, and better things are yet to come. I am going to promise you the same thing I did to Faith. I will love you both equally. I will always see you both as the same person—not as separate entities. You don't have to worry about me leaving."

Mutiny hugged me tightly, her face buried in my neck.

"Is it okay for me to be myself?"

"Of course. No matter how crazy or psychotic you get, I will love you," I told her. "Just don't kill anyone from my family," I joked.

She chuckled lightly. "Of course, I won't. I will treasure everything you do. I won't ever let you regret loving me." With that, she stood on her tiptoes and kissed me.

"Just a question I had," I interrupted.

"What?"

"I don't mean to sound judgemental, but did you sleep around before meeting me?"

She smirked. "Is it because I hit on you without shame when we first met?"

"Maybe." I shrugged my shoulders.

She nibbled on my earlobe and whispered, "Contrary to your ideas, I am a very loyal woman." Her low voice made goosebumps rise on my body. "Ever since I set my eyes on you, you are all I have ever wanted—my first kiss, my first date, my first time. I want all of them to be with you."

"That sounds like a lot of pressure."

"Why? You don't want to take them?"

"I wouldn't have it any other way." I grinned and locked our lips.

I would be there with her through thick and thin. Even if there were to appear a third alter, I would love that side of her as well. Everything she had to offer, I would accept it without hesitation.

My love was too much; I knew it probably wasn't even normal. But I didn't care as long as this person could handle my love, and so far it seemed like she would have no problem taking it.

Maybe our life wasn't set to be easy. But we were going to work hard to stay together. That was a lifetime promise.
