Chapter 32: Underworld Queen

Eltan Storm

"I swear I will chop that piece of a shit limb by limb," Mutiny grumbled from the corner of the room while a medic took the crumbs of the bullet from my left shoulder.

When we were outside the mansion, one of the members of Charles and Andrew's gang happened to survive despite his grave injuries and shot at me from the window. He aimed for my heart, but he missed and hit my shoulder.

I chuckled lightly at her fussing. "He's dead already. Remember, you emptied your magazine shooting at that guy?"

"Not enough! I'm still going to cut him into little pieces, then I will burn them," she declared, her arms crossed against her chest.

"Just please don't eat them. I happen to kiss that mouth of yours," I cringed.

She rolled her eyes but continued to eye Lara as she meticulously worked on my injury.

I suppressed my urge to chuckle. It was so obvious how jealous Mutiny was.

Lara was our medic, and objectively speaking, she was quite pretty with a good figure. Despite her always staying professional with me, Mutiny couldn't help but watch her like a hawk. The fact that I was currently shirtless didn't help, either.

Once Lara finished sanitizing and dabbed cotton on the wound, ready to wrap the bandage, Mutiny came forward and said, her voice tight, "I will do this part."

"Can you do it properly?" Lara asked in a serious this-is-my-patient-you-better-not-mess-up tone.

"Yes," she replied confidently.

"Alright," Lara said and motioned Mutiny to the bandage and scissors.

"You can leave now."

Lara quietly obeyed Mutiny's order, leaving us alone in the medical room.

Mutiny sighed and grabbed the bandage to wrap it around my chest up to my shoulder. I tried not to be conscious of her piercing gaze on my back and how her slender fingers lingered on my skin a little longer than needed. The fact she looked exactly like my girlfriend made it harder for me to divert my mind.

She brought her lips near my ear and whispered, "I wish I could have been doing something else to you right now."

I got a little goosebumps but didn't let anything show on my face. "Get your mind out of the gutter and concentrate on your job. Look, the bandage is getting bunched up here," I complained. "If you can't do it right, I'll call Lara back. Then she can put her hand all over my chest."

"Fine, fine," she grunted and actually concentrated on doing her work.

It was quiet for a little while between us until she was done.

I started to thank her when she suddenly placed her head on my right shoulder.

I was about to protest when she quivered, "I'm so glad you're okay."

My breath hitched at her voice—so sincere and filled with genuine gratefulness.

"I just wondered right now what would have happened if the bullet didn't miss, and I... I realized I would have died right there along with you." Tears from her eyes dripped on my bare skin. "I was so scared at that instant. You know, my heart just stopped. It probably started beating only now."

I couldn't help but chuckle lightly and patted her head. "You do know that it's biologically impossible, right?"

"Screw biology. If I say, the two of our hearts are connected, then it is connected. Period."
