Time skip

Today is my cousin Antonio's birthday. He is finally of age and is getting his gift! I am getting dressed when Mirabel knocks on my door. I head downstairs for breakfast and sit between Camilo and Antonio.

"Are you excited for tonight?" I ask Antonio.

"Yes!" He says, I can't wait to find out what mine is!"

"Okay!" Abuela says, "today must go perfectly! We will go into town for a few chores before returning to Casita and setting up for Antonio's night. La Familia Madrigal!"

"La Familia Madrigal!" We all chant. We all head out together towards town.

I am going around town and helping a few people when I see Mirabel being followed by tons of kids. As they pass me I am moving water into jars for people to come and take. Mirabel is telling the kids about me.

"My cousin Cassandra, she's the daughter of Bruno, she controls the elements.

I stink my foot raising the ground so she and the kids can get back to town. When I am done I hear Abuela calling and I run and meet the family in town. We all walk back to Casita to begin decorating.
I start setting out candles around the house. Once I have placed them all I clap my hands together and they all light up. I then go and help Tío Agustin with the drinks.

About an hour later people begin arriving. I walk around carrying a plate of cups while Luisa carries the food. I see Isabella playing with the children and laugh as the children dance in the petals. Abuela motions to me when it's time and I dim all the candles. I stand next to Camillo as she begins.

"50 years ago, in our darkest moment this candle blessed us with a miracle. And the greatest honor of this family has been to use our blessings to serve this beloved community. Tonight we come together once more, as another steps into the light to make us proud."

The curtains open and Antonio stands there. I watch as he extends his arm and I see him whisper something. Mirabel steps out of the shadows and i hear gasps. I smile at them. They had become so close and it was so cute.

"Let's get you to your door." I hear her say.

Antonio hangs onto her arm as she walks him forwards. We watch as they walk up the stairs to Abuela. I smile remembering my ceremony. I was terrified just like Antonio. Abuela leans down to allow Antonio to touch the candle. He nervously walks up to the door and touches the handle. The door shines and a tucán lands on his shoulder. Antonio nods his head as the bird squawks.

"I understand you!" He said, "of course they can come!" The bird squawks loudly and animals begin to fill the house. Antonio's door shines brightly and shows him surrounded by animals.

"We have a new gift!" Abuela announces.

We all cheer and Antonio rushes into his new room. Camillo and I run up the stairs to Antonio's room. A tiger runs in and picks up Antonio. He and the tiger run around the room while we cheer.

"We need a picture!" Abuela says. "Everyone come! It's a great night, it's a perfect night! Everyone together."

I stand in front of Isabella and Luisa and behind Camillo.

"La Familia Madrigal" we all yell.

After the picture we begin dancing. I get tired of dancing after a while and go to get a drink. I stand in a corner and sip on my punch. I see a boy heading my way. I've seen him in town but I don't know his name.

"Leonardo Amor." He says putting his hand out.

"Cassandra Madrigal." I shake his hand.

"Yeah I know." He winks. "You want to dance?"

"Maybe later." I say politely. "I just got off to have a break."

"I'll come back for you." He winks and walks away.

"Who was that?" Camillo asked, as he walked up to me.

"Leonardo Amor." I say. "He asked me to dance. He seems nice enough. And you know Abuela would like him."

"Then you shouldn't tell Abuela about him." We both laughed and talked for a while.

Mirabel came running in the room yelling. "The house is in danger! The tiles were falling and there were cracks everywhere! And the candle almost went out."

"Show me." Abuela said.

We follow them out there and nothing looks wrong.

I watch Anhela stop Mirabel from talking and getting louder.

"There is nothing wrong with La Casa Madrigal. The magic is strong! And so are the drinks. Music! Music, please!"

We all return to the party and I see Tía Julietta take Mirabel to the kitchen. I have to dance with Leonardo since I said I would and I actually had a good time. He was a really bad dancer and it made me laugh.

After the party we clean up and go to bed. I congratulate Antonio one more time before going to sleep.
