A/N: Trigger warning: This contains a lot of graphic content and gore. It's absolutely one of the darkest things I've ever done. Don't take this warning lightly. Have something to cuddle close by. And I'm sorry in advance. Send me your therapy bills. My bestie read this one and she went from utter silence to, "You sadistic little shit. How could you? I fucking hate you so much. Go drown in Lake Lanier (it's a Georgia thing). You made me cry. You owe me pizza and wine." So...there's that.

Chapter 39:
Flesh and Blood
Everything was darkness and pain.
Darkness and pain.

~ 15 hours post-abduction ~
The entire left side of Alison's face was covered in blood. Alex had struck her hard, tearing open a gash above her left eye. It had bled so much that it was in her mouth, her eyes, and her nose. It was congealed and matted in her hair.
When she tried to move, an exploding pain shot through her head. The ceiling above her spun in circles. She closed her eyes.
Definitely have a concussion...
She started diagnosing herself immediately.
Could have a small brain bleed. Possible fractured eye socket...
Drums were pounding in her head. The intense throbbing was unbearable.
She scouted the room for an escape, but everything was boarded up. Alex had been planning this for a while.
Her own personal prison cell.
She jerked against her restraints, frustrated...angry. When she moved she could feel all of her injuries at once. Blinding horrible agony.
Her jaw and cheek were swollen and bruised. An angry purple blemish circled around her left eye. She couldn't see much out of it because it was halfway swollen shut. Her ears were ringing and her hearing was distorted, but she could hear someone approaching.
The pain in her head sent flashes of light into her field of vision. She moaned under her breath and then embraced the darkness. The darkness was more comforting than reality. As long as she was in the darkness she was safe.
In the dark, she could sense Emily.
Emily...
She drifted in and out of consciousness while her wife worked diligently with Eddie to determine where Alex Drake would have taken Alison.
The detective had been searching abandoned properties for hours. She knew she was racing against the clock.
She'd planned to speak with Marcela and her little girl again to see if anyone had been back to the house next to theirs. That house had been what broke the case wide open. She'd scoured the house for clues again, but found nothing.
It was purely coincidental that she ended up standing outside the very building where her wife was being held hostage.
Sometimes that's how things worked in investigations. There wasn't always some big grand revelation. Sometimes they stumbled into the right place at the right time. Or the right place at the wrong time...

Alison was still fighting her consciousness, but she knew someone was in the room with her. She couldn't see, but she felt hands against her exposed flesh.
