they reached their destination, and it was at the wheeler's house. robin expected that this would be where they would hang out. robin was facing the window, looking at the wheeler's house, she felt a tap on her shoulder and looked back to see nancy, a genuine smile plastered on her face.
"so uhh, let's go?" nancy asked, "yeah, yeah totally." robin said and tries to hide her nervousness. nancy didn't notice and it was a good thing.
as they approached the doorstep, someone opened the door, "oh nancy there you are!" mrs. wheeler was there, engulfing nancy in a hug, robin was standing beside nancy awkwardly, she grabbed her other arm and tried to busy herself from the weird atmosphere she was feeling. robin wasn't used to people showing their affection to others infront of her. "you must be robin! i'm karen, nancy's mom." mrs. wheeler then engulfed robin in a hug, robin stood there frozen but hugged back.
they both pulled back from the hug, "it's nice to meet you, mrs. wheeler." robin forced herself to give a smile to nancy's mom. she was slightly uncomfortable with the gesture as it was unlikely for her mom to show her affection like what nancy's mom did.
"we'll just go up to my room, mom. knock if you need anything!" nancy half-yelled and pulled robin's arm, the short girl had noticed how robin was practically uncomfortable with everything so she decided to just go to her room immediately.
once they entered the room, nancy broke the silence. "hey robin, i'm so sorry for mom. she's like that when our friends come here." nancy apologized, robin smiled at her apology, "it's fine, nance. it just happened so quickly so i didn't have time to react. besides, i think it's sweet that your moms does that to your friends." when robin said that, nancy felt her cheeks burning up. she tried to remain calm but she failed.
robin noticed the look on nancy's face and she just chuckled. "why did you ask me to hang out though?" robin asked, making nancy look at her with a serious face. "uhh, well.. jonathan and i broke up like more than a-a week ago.." nancy said in a shaky breath. robin then pitied the girl as she saw her eyes, the tears threatening to fall down.
nancy wiped her tears, "i mean, it was a mutual decision for the both of us. and- and it's just not working anymore." she stammered. robin felt sorry for the girl, she wanted to ask why she was the one nancy chose to tell instead of her other friends. "i'm sorry nancy.." robin said and nancy cried a river, her sobs were quiet and she was close to hyperventilating.
robin pulled nancy in her arms, basically cradling her like a baby wanting a mother's warmth. she hushed nancy and tried to get the girl to calm down, robin was getting scared that nancy might have a panic attack and she didn't know what to do.
nancy's cries died down and her breathing was back to normal. nancy awkwardly detached herself from robin's arms. "i'm sorry, robin.. uhh-" nancy's words were cut off by robin who was shushing her. "it's okay, nancy. if ever you want to cry more, i'm here. i wont leave." robin said softly which made nancy's heart swell.
minutes passed and the both of the girls were hugging each other, nancy looked up at robin, "if you're wondering why i told you this, it's because i thought you'd understand, we're like the same age and i mean, you're a girl too." nancy said and robin nodded, the thought that was in her head for a couple of minutes were already answered without her asking it.
"i don't mind at all," robin smiled and continued, "if ever you need someone to talk to, i'm here." nancy smiled at robin's words and sat up on the bed.
though robin wanted to say she didn't understand all the boy talk since she was a lesbian, and didn't like men. she thought it would be rude to tell her that and it would be a dick move for robin to do, only steve knows that she likes girls and wouldn't risk to tell anyone.
both of them just decided to watch a movie and made themselves comfortable in nancy's bed. the night grew darker and robin bid nancy goodbye, robin didn't want to go home, she felt safe, happy and comfortable with nancy. it was a weird thing to admit because the girl she once hated became the girl who she's happy to spend time with.
