Also I have no idea how any of this works ('any of this' being child psychology), so i will be spewing non-sense :D

"River? Honey, you ready for your appointment?"

River was your younger brother. He was.. a problematic child. He was only 13, but he would cause trouble in school with his friends.

You tried to talk to them, asking if something was wrong, but he blew up at you. Saying, 'You're not my mom or dad!' It hurt, but you didn't want to add wood to the fire.

Your parents were pretty strict people, very old school. Plus, being immigrants, they of course wanted the best for you both, that's why they moved to America, but that love always came out rather harsh.

You didn't agree with the way your parents had treated you in your youth, so when you were 18 you left for college and never came back. That was until you got a phone call from your 12-year-old brother that there had been a car accident. You rushed home and took him in, but change and loss is hard for anyone to deal with. Teenage hormones definitely had not helped him.

A friend of yours recommended a child psychologist. You were hesitant at first, sending River to a stranger to talk about things he wouldn't even talk to you about seemed, wrong.

You tried giving him space, but things got worse. He was getting into fight after fight, with students and teachers, physical and verbal, grades were slipping, and you were getting called out of work multiple times a week.

Again, you being his single guardian, who made all the money for the household, were very worried about your future financial state, as well as your brother's well-being.

So, one night, you held her business card, bent and nearly sweat-soaked, in one hand from various similar nights of contemplation. You looked back and forth between it and River's progress support, attendance sheet, and your phone which you always feared would ring with a call from the school.

You gave in.

A woman named Sasha Waybright, your friend - and even a few coworkers surprisingly - spoke highly of her, professionally, and as her acquaintance.

When you drove River to her office, he didn't speak to you. He sat and changed the radio every 10 seconds while you drove down the highway.

"You know I love you, right?" You asked cautiously, you didn't want to ruin the relationship you'd built with him over the years.

"mhm," He mumbled, looking out the window.

"I just want you to be able to have someone to talk to! Talking to someone like Ms. Waybright might be a little easier than your 'parent,' right? Or sister.. She might be able to-"

"Fix me?" He scoffed.

"What?! No! River no! Of course not!" You put a hand on his arm, risking a quick glance away from the road, "You are perfect. Okay? Perfect. Ms. Waybright might be able to help you work through what's been bothering you."

"Nothing is 'bothering me!'" He insisted, mocking your voice.

You went quiet, "Just this one appointment? Please?"

He rolled his eyes, "Mhm, okay whatever."

You gave him one last squeeze with a smile. Your hand returned to the wheel as you parallel parked in front of the building.

You walked to the front desk and there she was, - very pretty if you could add, is that weird? - you signed River in and took him to the side. You had seen pictures of her from your friend and online, but wow, in person is much better.
