"heyyy N/n!" Marcy's cheery voice was laced with apologetics at the late hour. She had always been like this, ever since you both met in highschool.

"jeez Mars, it's like 5 am! have you gone to bed at all since our last call?!" you yawned and sat up in your, honestly, uncomfortable bed.

There was a bit of silence over the phone. Just the pit pat of rain outside, and the squeaky springs of your mattress.

"Marcy?" You sort of laughed as you spoke.

"no.." She laughed as well, "but i gotta tell you something." her voice dipped a little below her usual peppy tone.

You hummed, a bit concerned, for her to keep going.

"so you know how you're my editor, and best friend, and basically everything for this project."

"i'm only your best friend for the project?!" you asked in mock offense, then your brows knitted together in confusion, "but yeah? what about it, i only spend everyday in your apartment."

she laughed at that, you liked her laugh, something about it just did something right for you. It made you happy. "well you know how i also said the story came from a dream i had? like, back in highschool?"

You nodded, though she couldn't see it, "mhm, a very vivid dream. I never remember my dreams.."

You put her on speaker as you went to your little apartment kitchen to grab a snack. Since you were up, you might as well head into work early. AKA, Marcy's place.

"well i've been having more..?" her voice echoed, it wasn't creepy, that might've just been cause it was Marcy though. You liked her voice too. Also, you had lived there for about a month, and was still yet to buy a rug or carpet. "dreams, that is.." she added on.

You snorted and laughed, "M, why do you sound so scared? It'll help build the story! Even though it's already got a great plot, really well developed characters, and overall gorgeous designs. Create by you, and yours truly!"

You heard Marcy take a deep breath as you took out some easy to use pancake mix. You were fairly good at cooking, but you did not trust yourself in the morning, while half asleep.

"okay, Y/n, I didn't come up with it-"

"what?!" You jumped, cutting her off, somehow not spilling the pancake mix.

"I.." she let out a sigh.

You stepped closer to your phone and turned up the volume before continuing to make the powder into batter.

"did you hear about that frog-invasion thing in LA?" She asked, throwing you off.

"what? i mean, a little, but not much.. Marcy, what're you getting at?" To be completely honest, you were starting to get a little impatient.

"well. i was kinda there.. before i moved and all that before high school." You heard her choke up a little.

"..you okay, Mars?" You asked hesitantly, grabbing your phone and moving it to your ear. Holding it up with your shoulder like moms do in the movies while you poured the mix onto the buttered pan.

"yeah.. uh,"

"Marcy, taking inspiration from something you experienced in real life, isn't stealing anything.. especially.. traumatic, events..?" You chuckled at the end of your sentence, trying to lighten the mood.
